Men’s Basketball Non-Conference Home Schedule to Include Kansas; Nebraska

It'll mark the first time Kansas has played Creighton in Omaha since 1951.
OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton men's basketball team unveiled a pair of high-profile non-conference home games for its 2024-25 schedule on Thursday. The Bluejays will host Kansas as part of the Big 12-BIG EAST Battle on Wednesday, Dec. 4th, and welcome Nebraska to CHI Health Center Omaha on Friday, Nov. 22nd.
The CU/KU news came when the BIG EAST and Big 12 Conferences announced the 2024 schedule for the Big 12-BIG EAST Battle, the men's basketball non-conference scheduling alliance which is in its sixth year.
Each conference has added member schools since the start of the original agreement. The Battle will include 11 matchups for the second straight season. The BIG EAST will host six games in 2024-25 while the Big 12 will host five. The 2024 matchups will feature seven teams ranked in the final AP poll of the 2023-24 season, including defending national champion Connecticut. Five of the 11 participant teams made it to the Sweet 16 in the 2024 NCAA Tournament.
The Battle matchups are jointly determined by the two conferences, with the home team choosing the venue of its game. Broadcast arrangements for the contests will be determined by the national television rights holder of the home team, which is FOX Sports for the BIG EAST and ESPN for the Big 12.
Game times and television networks will be announced when available.
Creighton is 2-3 all-time in the BIG EAST-Big 12 Battle. The Bluejays defeated Oklahoma (83-73) in Omaha in 2019 before falling to No. 5 Kansas (73-72) in Lawrence in 2020, No. 18 Iowa State (65-58) in Omaha in 2021 and at No. 2 Texas (72-67) in 2022-23. Last season Creighton beat Oklahoma State 79-65 in Stillwater.
Kansas is 4-1 all-time in the event, losing to #18 Villanova (56-55) in 2019 before beating No. 8 Creighton in Lawrence (73-72) in 2020, winning at St. John's (95-75) in 2021 and winning home games the past two seasons over Seton Hall (91-65) in 2022 and No. 4 UConn (69-65) in 2023.
The BIG EAST has won 25-of-47 games in the conference challenge series over the previous five campaigns. Games for the upcoming season of the Big 12-BIG EAST Battle will be played December 3-8.
Creighton is 6-11 all-time against Kansas, but owns a 5-3 record in Omaha against the Jayhawks. The game will mark KU's first road game at Creighton since Dec. 10, 1951. The teams have met twice in the previous four seasons, losing 73-72 in Lawrence in 2020 and 79-72 in Fort Worth, Texas, in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament.
Creighton has beaten Nebraska 11 of the last 13 meetings, including last year's 89-60 win in Lincoln. The Cornhuskers finished the 2023-24 campaign with a 23-11 record, reaching their first NCAA Tournament since 2014.
Creighton finished the 2023-24 season with a 25-10 record, matching its most wins in a season since 2016-17. The Bluejays made their third trip to the Sweet 16 in the past four seasons and were one of three teams to defeat eventual national champion Connecticut. CU was ranked 10th in the year-end USA Today Coaches poll and 13th in the year-end Associated Press poll. Kansas finished the season 19th in the AP poll and 21st in the USA Today Coaches poll after going 23-11, but has already been picked as the No. 1 team in a preseason 2024-25 poll by Field of 68 and 247Sports.
