TEMPE, Ariz. – The Creighton men's tennis team secured a 2024 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team award while seven individuals earned scholar-athlete awards, the ITA announced on July 22.
Recent graduate Matthew Lanahan earned his fourth consecutive ITA Scholar-Athlete Award, while fellow graduate Zack Maline secured his third straight scholar-athlete honor. Shin Inoue also claimed the second ITA Scholar-Athlete award of his career while rising senior Ethan Neil picked up his third consecutive honor. Sophomore Zachary Kuo added a second ITA Scholar-Athlete honor to his resume, while junior Blake Eason and sophomore Yuma Daijima each claimed scholar-athlete recognition for the first time in their careers.
The Bluejays held a 3.62 GPA during the spring and a 3.59 GPA last fall. This is the 16th consecutive year that Creighton has collected ITA All-Academic Team Recognition.
Creighton's seven honorees were tied for the third-most in the BIG EAST, trailing only DePaul's league-leading 10 and Georgetown's nine honorees.
Within the sport of tennis, student-athletes continue to exceed expectations in the classroom and on the court. In 2024, 1,059 Division I Men's student-athletes were named an ITA Scholar-Athlete and 176 men's tennis programs were awarded the All-Academic Team distinction. Compared to the last year, 126 more student-athletes and 13 more Division I programs received the distinction of ITA Scholar-Athletes.
All-Academic teams boasted a team GPA of 3.20 or higher. ITA Scholar-Athletes must meet the following criteria: 1.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 2.) be listed on the institutional eligibility form.
