Women’s Soccer Downed By Nebraska, 5-2

LINCOLN, Neb. – Playing in front of crowd of 2,382, the second largest crowd in Hibner Stadium history, the Creighton women's soccer team dropped a 5-2 decision to Nebraska on Monday afternoon in Lincoln.
The Bluejays moved to 2-2-0 on the season with the loss, while Nebraska improved to 2-2-0 overall with the victory.
The Cornhuskers built an early 2-0 lead in the first 26 minutes of the contest off a pair of set pieces as Sarah Weber headed in a corner kick from Florence Belzile. Reese Snowden added to Nebraska's lead four minutes later on a one-touch rebound off a shot from Ella Guyott to give the Cornhuskers a 2-0 lead.
Creighton answered in the 34th minute when senior Ariana Mondiri skipped a shot passed the diving stretch of the Nebraska's goalkeeper for her second goal of the season, cutting the deficit to 2-1. Senior Lara Kazandjian was credited with an assist, playing a ball over the top of the Cornhuskers back line to Mondiri.
Nebraska wasted little time and pushed their advantage back out to two less than 30 seconds later as Weber connected with the back of the net for a second time to give the Cornhuskers a 3-1 lead at the break.
In the second half Nebraska continued to pile on the pressure, adding to its lead in the 60th minute when Weber completed her second half trick of the season, heading in a service from Jordan Zade.
Nebraska's Lauryn Anglim would push the score to 5-1 in the 73rd minute on a penalty kick, before Creighton junior Kelis Brown clipped in her first goal of the season off a corner kick from Kazandjian to make the score 5-2.
Nebraska closed the match with a 21-9 advantage in shots, while also holding an 5-1 edge in corner kicks. The physical contest saw three yellow cards issued to Creighton, with the Bluejays being called for 21 fouls, compared to the Cornhuskers 15.
Creighton returns to the pitch on Friday, September 6 as the Bluejays face nationally ranked Saint Louis in the 12th annual Socctoberfest match at 5 p.m.
