Volleyball Sweeps BIG EAST's Weekly Awards

Creighton quartet recognized after posting a pair of Top 10 wins
OMAHA, Neb. -- Coming off a huge weekend that featured back-to-back Top 10 victories, the Creighton Volleyball team swept all four awards handed out by the BIG EAST Conference on Monday. Norah Sis was named Offensive Player of the Week, Kendra Wait tabbed Setter of the Week, Kiara Reinhardt recognized as Defensive Player of the Week and Jaya Johnson awarded Freshman of the Week.
Sis averaged 4.43 kills, 2.00 digs, 0.71 blocks and 0.14 aces on .303 hitting to earn her second BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week this season (Sept. 9). Sis started the week with 15 kills, seven digs and two blocks in a 3-1 victory vs. No. 6 Purdue, the highest-ranked team that CU has beaten since 2021. The Papillion, Neb., product capped her week with 16 kills on 31 errorless swings, hitting a season-best .516 in a 3-0 win at No. 10 Kansas. She added seven digs, three blocks, two assists and an ace against the Jayhawks, a school where her mom Tracie played volleyball. Sis has now been named Offensive Player of the Week by the BIG EAST eight times in her career, including three times in 2022 (Aug. 29, Oct. 10, Oct. 31) and three additional times in 2023 (Sept. 4, Oct. 23, Nov. 20).
Wait averaged 13.71 assists, 3.71 digs, 1.29 blocks and 0.86 kills per set and hit .267, attaining a pair of double-doubles as Creighton picked up back-to-back Top 10 wins for the first time in program history. The Gardner, Kan., native had a season-high 51 assists on Friday in a 3-1 win vs. No. 6 Purdue, adding 11 digs, six blocks and five kills on .273 hitting. She wrapped up her week with 45 assists, 15 digs, three blocks, one ace and one kill in a 3-0 sweep over No. 10 Kansas, a school where her sister Cassie played from 2013-16. Creighton hit .426 as a team in the victory as Wait quarterbacked the Bluejay offense to their top hitting percentage of the season, and top mark ever against a ranked foe. Wait's 13.71 assists per set were the most over the course of a week by any player in the country this season. Wait has now been recognized as BIG EAST Setter of the Week three times (also Sept. 2 and Sept. 9) in the first month of the season, and the 2023 BIG EAST Player of the Year and 2023 BIG EAST Setter of the Year has also won four BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week and one Offensive Player of the Week laurels in her decorated career.
Reinhardt averaged 1.57 blocks, 1.86 kills, 0.86 digs and hit .524 to help Creighton to the Jayhawk Classic title. The Wisconsin native had eight kills, six blocks and season-best five digs in Friday's 3-1 win vs. No. 6 Purdue. Her play helped Creighton outblock a Boilermaker unit that entered the weekend second nationally in blocks per set. The Cedarburg, Wis., resident concluded her week with five blocks and five kills while hitting .714 in a 3-0 victory at No. 10 Kansas. The Jayhawks hit a season-low .171 after leading the nation in hitting percentage entering the weekend. This is Reinhardt's third career Defensive Player of the Week recognition, having also been honored on March 9, 2021 and Oct. 30, 2023.
Johnson averaged 2.71 kills, 0.86 digs and 0.57 blocks per set and hit .438 in victories over No. 6 Purdue (3-1) and No. 10 Kansas (3-0). Johnson started her week with 10 kills, five digs and a block in a 3-1 win vs. No. 6 Purdue, hitting .412 in 17 swings. The Olathe, Kan., native then had nine kills and three blocks on .467 hitting in a 3-0 win over No. 10 Kansas to hand the Jayhawks their first loss of the season. This is Johnson's second BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honor, also being recognized on Sept. 2.
