Gerch Shares Team Lead in Debut For Men's Golf Team

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Lincoln native Gavin Gerch made his collegiate debut a memorable one as the freshman tied for the Creighton lead on Tuesday to complete play in the Git-R-Done Invitational at Firethorn Golf Club in Lincoln, Neb. Gerch and junior teammate Grant Feldman both tied for 38th in the event to help the Bluejays to a 12th-place finish in the team standings.
Gerch and Feldman tied for 38th to lead Creighton, as the duo posted identical scores of 71, 75 and 75 for a 221 aggregate. Feldman owned six birdies in the tournament, two more than Gerch.
Cole Davis tied for 51st place after loops of 76, 76 and 74 for a 226 total. Davis topped the Bluejays with eight birdies in the event, including four in the second round.
Jake Boor tied for 55th place after three consecutive circuits of 76, while Radley Mauney wrapped up CU's team scoring in a tie for 57th place with back-to-back rounds of 74 after an opening 81.
Competing as an individual but not factoring into CU's team score was Brock Kuhlman, who tied Boor for 55th place with scores of 76, 78 and 74.
Creighton finished 12th in the tournament with an 892 total after rounds of 294, 300 and 298. Sam Houston State (279-272-279) finished 22-under par to earn an eight-shot victory over South Alabama (281-280-277=838) atop the 12-team field.
Sam Houston State's Hugo Trommetter posted a 2-shot victory after rounds of 68, 65 and 69 for a 202 total, edging South Alabama's Filip Svendsen (70-68-66). The field included 65 golfers.
The event was held on a Par 71 Firethorn Golf Club course that measured 7,003 yards.
Creighton returns to the course next Monday with a pair of competitions. The Bluejays will send players to compete in both the Tommie Invitational in Stillwater, Minn., as well as the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational in Erie, Colo.
