Scouting #21 Seton Hall (7-2-6; 3-0-3 BIG EAST)
Ahead of the Midwest versus East Division matchup between the Bluejays and Pirates, Seton Hall pieced together a two game win streak, most recently defeating St. John's 1-0.
Seton Hall's strong defense and scoring the night's only goal kept the Pirates undefeated in conference play and solidly in second place in the East Division.
The match's standalone goal came off the foot of forward Mikkel Lejbowicz in the 32nd minute, marking his sixth score of the season, and his fourth in just three matches.Â
Lejbowicz leads the team with his six goals and one assist, though the Seton Hall offense boasts 12 scorers and 13 players with at least one assist.
Goalkeeper Matias Molina has guarded the net for all but 14 minutes this season. In his 1,336 minutes in the net, Molina allowed 10 goals, recorded eight shutouts and tallied 43 saves.
Scouting Creighton (8-3-3, 4-1-1 BIG EAST)
With the BIG EAST tournament on the horizon, the Bluejays maintained their hold on first place in the BIG EAST's Midwest Division, most recently defeating Butler 3-1.
Creighton broke through in the 23rd minute when Omar Ramadan's free kick slipped past the Butler goalkeeper for his first goal of the season and a 1-0 lead.
Miguel Arilla struck less than four minutes later with a bicycle kick goal to give the Bluejays a two-goal advantage. Arilla's six goals this season account for nearly one third of Creighton's 19 goals.
Ayden Kokoszka capped the three-goal run in the 42nd minute with his first collegiate score for a 3-0 lead, and although Butler quickly responded 38 seconds later, Creighton held on for the win.
Goalkeeper Matthew Hudson, Creighton's mainstay between the posts, recorded four saves in the outing, including three in just 18 seconds.
In conference play this season, Hudson has allowed just five goals in six BIG EAST games, while the Bluejay offense has tallied nine over the same stretch.
How to Reach the BIG EAST Tournament
The BIG EAST Conference Tournament is a four-team, single elimination style format. The top team in each division will earn the number one and number two seed, while the other two remaining spots will go to the two best teams overall, regardless of which division.
Semifinal matchups are set with the number one seed facing the number four seed, and the number two seed and number three seed matchup against each other. Both winners will advance to the championship match.Â
Tiebreakers for seeding are determined in order by head-to-head results, total points against all common opponents, record against the top team in the common opponent pool, goal differential among common opponent, and finally, the team's RPI based on the latest NCAA release.Â
If three or more teams are tied at the end of the regular season, they are grouped into a "mini-conference" and the team with the most points in those matchups gains the advantage. If ties still remain, or if teams did not play each other, the process continues through the same criteria until all teams are seeded.
Arilla Sets New Career-High with Sixth Goal Against Butler
Miguel Arilla's goal on Saturday came in spectacular fashion against Butler by way of a bicycle kick who was set up by his teammate Omar Ramadan, this marked his sixth of the season, setting a new career high after recording four goals in each of the previous two years. The junior midfielder continues to lead the Bluejays in scoring and remains one of the team's most consistent offensive threats.Â
Match with Pirates is Bluejays First Against a Ranked Opponent in 2025
Saturday's match with Seton Hall will be Creighton's first contest against a ranked opponent in 2025. The Bluejays went 0-3-1 against ranked foes last year, while the last victory over a ranked team came on Oct. 18, 2024. That win was a 3-2 home victory over No. 7 Akron. In program history the Bluejays are 90-69-19 (.559) in contests with ranked opposition, including a 48-18-5 (.711) mark at home. The full list of games against ranked opponents is on page 12.Â
Ramadan's Three-Point Performance at Butler
Omar Ramadan had a standout performance for Creighton in the first half against Butler. He opened up the game by scoring in the 22nd minute with his first goal of the season. A few minutes later Ramadan sent a pass into Miguel Arilla, who finished with a bicycle kick for the goal. Ramadan's three-point effort tied a season-high for the Bluejays.
