When freshman Ethan Ivany won the Twin Cities Regional Tournament, the ever-present silence of the golf course was nowhere to be found. Golf is a sport where silence is crucial. When a player is lining up their shot, you can hear a pin drop. Therefore, the few moments where there is noise pose a stark contrast to the rest of the game.
Growing up, Ivany played as many sports as he could. As Ethan approached high school, he realized that he became more prone to injuries and searched for a sport that would take less of a toll. His father had always played golf, and so he picked up the sport and fell in love with it. What I like about golf is that you can never figure it out, Ivany said, There's always something you can be working on.
A freshman in the Heider College of Business, Ethan had a connection to the Big East before he started looking for colleges. His father played soccer at Providence College, so Ethan knew that he wanted a small school, but big sports. Following roster cuts for Division 1 programs during the recruitment process, Ethan came to learn about the Premier Club Sports program at Creighton. It was a good mix between the academic part and still being able to focus on that, but also still being able to play my sport and not just quit after high school which has been great, he said.
At the Twin Cities Regional Tournament, Ivany faced challenging conditions but managed to start the weekend strong. It was windy both days, which didn't make the conditions too easy, but I feel like I play better when the conditions are harder, helps me helps me focus a little bit and it gives me more confidence, Ethan stated. Coming into day two, he was in second place, a position he has found himself in twice before this season. He decided he was going to do something different this time, telling himself I'm not going to get second, I was finally going to get it done this time.
As golf approaches the offseason, Ethan plans to use this win as a steppingstone to improve his game in the future. He said he wants to utilize what Creighton's given me and try to take my game to the next level.
When asked about what it takes to join Premier Club Sports, he said I have a lot of people asking me about club and, you know, like, am I good enough to play? I just say, yeah, just do it. I would just get in contact with the coaches and see what it's all about and see if it's something you want to do.
Ethan also added about his experience that …a lot of people will go to these really small schools and play their sport, but they won't get that real college experience and feel with going to such a small school. So I think, being able to continue to play our sport, but also at a decently high level and still go to school in a great environment is definitely an advantage with Premier Club Sports.
