Zediker Delivers Career-High 26 Points to Guide Bluejay WBB to 73-60 Win Over Tulsa

Omaha, Neb. -- Freshman Ava Zediker came alive with a career-high 26 points, including 21 in the opening half to lead Creighton Women's Basketball to a 73-60 win over Tulsa on Sunday, December 7. The win pushed the Bluejays to 4-4 on the season, while Tulsa fell to 6-3.
Leading by 20 points at halftime, Creighton saw Tulsa pull within six at 61-55 with 5:32 remaining. With the game in the balance the Bluejays got seven straight points, started by a trey from freshman Norah Gessert. Allison Heathcock and Grace Boffeli followed with elbow jumpers to break a 3-2 zone employed by the Golden Hurricane as Creighton put the game away.Â
Early in the game the Bluejays came out firing as Creighton held an early 11-0 lead, getting the first two buckets from Boffeli as well as five points from Zediker during the surge. Tulsa's first bucket came with 5:32 remaining in the opening frame. The Creighton edge dipped to seven points at 17-10 (1:59), but the Bluejays delivered the final seven points of the frame courtesy of a three-ball from Zediker, two free throws from Boffeli and mid-range jumper by Allison Heathcock.
After posting 10 in the opening stanza, Zediker doubled down with 11 more in the second quarter to help the Bluejays take a 47-27 edge into the locker room at the half. The two squads went back-and-forth for the first five minutes as Creighton led 32-22 with 5:15 remaining, but the Bluejays scored 15 of the final 20 points led by six from Zediker. Fellow freshman Neleigh Gessert delivered eight points in the frame. The trio of Zediker and the Gessert twins, three freshmen, accounted for 21 of Creighton's 23 points in the second quarter.
Tulsa took control of the tempo in the third quarter as the Golden Hurricane went to the line eight times. The work at the charity stripe helped the Golden Hurricane close the gap to 52-42 late in the frame. Zediker responded with her fourth trey of the of game as Creighton held a 55-44 edge heading to the final frame.
Zediker led all scorers with 26 points, while Heathcock and Boffeli each finished with 12 points. Freshman Neleigh Gessert rounded out Creighton's double-figure core with 11 points. Boffeli also grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds for her 40th career double-double.
Creighton returns to the hardwood on Sunday, December 14 as the Bluejays take on Kansas State at 1:00 pm in D.J. Sokol Arena.
