Men's Basketball Returns to Top 25

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton men's basketball team returned to the Top 25 in Monday's polls, coming in at No. 24 in the Associated Press poll and No. 21 in the USA Today/Coaches poll. It's the fifth time this season that Creighton's been ranked, but first week since November 25th.

Creighton's rise comes on the heels of a nine-game winning streak that's improved the Bluejays to 18-6 on the season and 11-2 mark in BIG EAST play.

Creighton's best AP ranking in program history is seventh, done five times (Jan. 16, 2017, March 10, 2020, March 18, 2020, Jan. 7, 2021 and Nov. 28, 2022). CU owns 29 weeks in the AP Top 10 in its history, with all but one of those recognitions coming during Greg McDermott's tenure.

Including today's ranking, Creighton has now been ranked by the AP 146 times in program history, with 119 of those under the direction of McDermott. Creighton is 180-76 all-time as a ranked team, including a 146-64 figure under McDermott. Creighton has been ranked at least one week in 11 of McDermott's 15 seasons on The Hilltop after doing it just five different seasons in program history before his 2010 arrival.

Creighton is one of three BIG EAST Conference schools in the AP Top 25, joining No. 9 St. John's and No. 18 Marquette. UConn, which had been ranked in the AP poll the previous 53 weeks, dropped out after losing a home game to St. John's on Friday. The top five teams in the AP poll are Auburn, Alabama, Duke, Florida and Tennessee.

Creighton is one of seven schools ranked in the Top 25 of both the men's and women's basketball polls this week, joining Kentucky, Duke, Tennessee, Maryland, Alabama and Michigan State.

Creighton plays a pair of ranked opponents this week, hosting Connecticut on Tuesday at 8 p.m. before visiting No. 9 St. John's on Sunday at 2 p.m.
