#22 Creighton WBB Falls at #5 Connecticut, 72-53

Hartford, Conn. -- After a fast start that saw #22 Creighton lead 8-0, the Bluejays faltered in a 72-53 loss at #5 Connecticut on Thursday, February 27. The loss moved the Bluejays to 23-5 on the season and 15-2 in BIG EAST play. The victory secured the BIG EAST Regular season title for the Huskies, moving to 27-3 on the season and 17-0 in league action.
Creighton came out firing in the opening four minutes as Morgan Maly and Molly Mogensen each connected from long range. Mogensen followed with a mid-range jumper to give the Bluejays an 8-0 edge (6:11). Connecticut, however, used a swarming defense to force Creighton into 14 turnovers in the opening half, leading to 21 points. The result saw the Huskies lead 11-10 after one quarter and 38-22 at the break.
The Bluejays were able to regain their composure in the second half, committing just five turnovers over the final 20 minutes and allowing just two Connecticut points on the five. Despite the improved ball security, Connecticut shot 73.3% in the third quarter hitting 11-of-15 shots.
Maly led the Bluejays with 11 points in the game, while freshman Allison Heathcock delivered six bench points in five minutes. Connecticut got a game-high 22 points and nine rebounds from Sarah Strong, while Paige Bueckers finished with 15 points and seven assists.
The Bluejays return to the hardwood on Sunday, March 2 when Creighton hosts Villanova at 7:30 p.m. on FS1.
