About Seton Hall
Scouting Seton Hall (16-5, 8-2 BIG EAST)
Since losing to the Bluejays in New Jersey in mid-January, the Pirates have added four victories to their win column over five games. Overcoming Marquette, St. John's, Butler and DePaul, the Pirates only loss came to No. 6 Connecticut over the past three weeks. Their recent success has paid dividends in conference standings, as the Pirates sit ranked third, behind the Huskies and Bluejays. Â
Leading the charge for the Seton Hall offense is Faith Masonius, who averages 16.8 points per game. The Pirates' assist leader is Amari Wright with 4.4 per game. The offense is also bolstered by freshman guard Jada Eads, whose 14.4 points per game ranks her the second most effective scorer on the team.
This season, the Pirates have fared well on the road, earning five wins and dropping just one game in enemy territory to Connecticut. However, Seton Hall has only won two games in Bluejay territory over the last 10 years. Their last victory over the Bluejays in Omaha came in the 2015-16 season, 79-74.
Scouting Creighton (18-4,10-1 BIG EAST)
With a February triumph over the Providence Friars by a margin of 13 points, the Creighton Bluejays racked up their ninth win in 10 games. It was the fourth consecutive game won by a margin
of 10 or more, beginning with DePaul in mid-January. The victory also pushed Creighton to a 10-1 record in BIG EAST play, placing them second only to Connecticut's unbeaten run (12-0).
Creighton's most recent contests with conference contenders have shown a common thread of collective basketball. While Lauren Jensen (17.5 ppg) and Morgan Maly (17.3 ppg) continue to lead the roster in points, Molly Mogensen (10.2 ppg), Jayme Horan (4.6 ppg) and others have bolstered Creighton's shooting performances.
Most recently, against the Friars, four Bluejays recorded double digits, including Mogensen and Horan. The duo contributed 33 points to the overall victory, with Mogensen leading the team with 17 points, and Horan's 16 points on the night putting her just two points shy of tying her season-high 18 points.
Heading into another matchup with the Pirates, this time under the lights of D.J. Sokol Arena, both teams are well-versed in the others' playing styles. The two met less than a month ago in New Jersey, where the Bluejays picked up a 72-64 victory.
Battle of the Guards: Veteran vs Rookie with Both Claiming Weekly Gold
An anticipated matchup between veteran Bluejay guard Molly Mogensen and freshman up-and-coming guard Jada Eads will reveal itself in the Wednesday matchup, as both vye for point guard dominance. Mogensen earned the BIG EAST Player of the Week on Monday, while Eads brought the Freshman honor back to South Orange.
Maly Sets Bluejays' Three-Point Record
With two treys against Providence on Saturday, February 2 Morgan Maly became Creighton's career record holder with 311 made three-pointers, passing Bluejay great Kathy Halligan (1988-92) at 309 three-point field goals made.
Also of note, veteran guard Lauren Jensen sits in as fifth, with 275 made three-pointers since coming to Creighton in 2021.
Mogensen Earns BIG EAST Player of the Week
Bluejay senior Molly Mogensen has been on a tear for some time, but her performance this week earned the Minnesota native her first BIG EAST Player of the Week honor on Monday, February 3.
During Creighton's wins at Georgetown (84-70 on January 29) and over Providence (79-66 on February 2), Mogensen led the team in scoring, rebounding and assists averaging 19.5 ppg, 7.5 rpg and 6.0 apg. She closed the two-game stretch shooting 16-of-22 (72.7%) from the field and 5-7 (71.4%) from beyond the arc. Against the Hoyas she delivered 22 points, seven rebounds and seven assists, including 14 second half points. On Sunday versus the Friars she closed the game with 17 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
Jensen Named Top-10 for Ann Meyers Drysdale Shooting Guard of the Year
Lauren Jensen was named to the Top-10 for the Ann Meyers Drysdale Shooting Guard of the Year Award on Tuesday, February 4. Jensen is the long BIG EAST representative on the list.
Through 22 games Jensen leads Creighton with 386 points (17.5 ppg), she is second on the team with 86 assists and has topped 20 points or more in 10 games during the 2024-25 season. Jensen and Maly Named to Women's College All-Star Game Watch List
Creighton's Lauren Jensen and Morgan Maly were named to the Women's College All-Star Game Midseason Watch List on Tuesday, February 4. The 2025 Women's College All-Star Game, presented by Herbalife, will feature the top senior standouts who are on the precipice of hearing their names called in the WNBA Draft. Of the more than 65 players that appear on the watch list, 20 will ultimately be selected to participate in the event, which will be televised by ESPN2 at 3 p.m. ET on April 5 in Tampa.
Through 22 games Jensen leads Creighton with 386 points (17.5 ppg), she is second on the team with 86 assists and has topped 20 points or more in 10 games during the 2024-25 season.
Maly is just five points behind Jensen with 381 points (17.3 ppg), she also leads Creighton with 116 rebounds (5.3 rpg) and became the Bluejays' record holder for career three-pointers with her 310th against Providence on February 2. Maly guided Creighton to a 71-68 win over Marquette on January 8 with a dominant 28 points on 10-of-11 from the field. She connected on 8-of-9 from long range against the Golden Eagles. Three days later in New Jersey the script was largely the same as Maly delivered 23 points in the Bluejays' 72-64 road win at Seton Hall. Against the Pirates Maly shined in the biggest moment. Creighton led 64-62 with 2:29 remaining in the game, but Maly refused to allow her squad to fall. She connected on consecutive three pointers and closed the game with a pair from the charity stripe to ensure the Bluejays' win. For the week Maly went 18-for-27 (.667) from the field, 12-for-17 (.706) from beyond the arc and led the Bluejays with 13 rebounds. It was Maly's first BIG EAST Player of the Week nod, despite being a two-time BIG EAST First Team selection as well as the 2022 BIG EAST Sixth Woman of the Year.
A total of 51 schools from 15 different conferences are represented on the Watch List, but Creighton is one of just 13 schools with at least two players on the list. The BIG EAST saw six players representing four schools on Midseason Watch List. The Women's College All-Star Game will provide the country's brightest college stars one final opportunity to represent their programs and be recognized against the backdrop of the sport's championship weekend.
Maly Nearing 100th Win as a Bluejay
Already the record holder for games played at Creighton with 139, Morgan Maly has collected 99 wins for the Bluejays. That number is the Creighton record for victories, with Molly Mogensen in second place at 95 wins entering the game with Providence.
