Bluejay Women's Head to Philly to Face Villanova

Omaha, Neb. -- Creighton Women's Basketball looks to remain in striking distance of the BIG EAST title as the Bluejays face Villanova on Saturday, February 8 at 1:00 p.m. (CT). It is the first meeting of the season between the Wildcats and Bluejays.

About Villanova
The first look at Villanova this season shows a team continuing to improve. The Wildcats have won five of their last six, dropping just a road game with #6 Connecticut on Jan. 22.
Freshman Jasmine Bascoe leads the Wildcats with 15.7 ppg and also has a team-best 95 assists. Transfer Denae Carter is a force in the middle with 9.3 ppg and 6.2 rpg, while Maddie Webbie brings 12.8 ppg.
Scouting Creighton (19-4,11-1 BIG EAST)
Creighton has won 10-of-11 games, including three consecutive contests. The Bluejays are 6-0 in BIG EAST road games this season and have won 31 road games over the past three years.
Steadied throughout the season by the scoring punch of seniors Lauren Jensen (17.7 ppg) and Morgan Maly (17.3 ppg), Creighton has received significant contributions from seniors Molly Mogensen, Jayme Horan, Mallory Brake and Brooke Littrell.
Creighton is at its best when the Bluejays move the basketball and take care of the rock. Creighton enters the game at Villanova averaging 17.6 assists per game and just 11.3 turnovers per contest.
Wildcats and Bluejays Meet for the First Time in 2024-25
Despite it being the second week of February, Creighton and Villanova will meet for the first time this season on Saturday. Flanery Looking to Give Himself a Birthday Present, His 13th 20-Win Season
Entering the game with Villanova at 19-4 this season, Creighton head coach Jim Flanery is on the verge of clinching his 13th career 20-win season. Making the possibility a bit more special, Flan turns 60 on February 8.
Flan already has more 20-win seasons than all other Creighton WBB coaches combined, more than doubling Bruce Rasmussen's five.

Bluejays Looking to Equal Second Best 25-Game Start
At 19-4, Creighton has a chance to equal the 21-4 mark last season through 25 games. Creighton opened the 1991-92 season at 28-3 under Bruce Rasmussen. The 1991-92 team went on to close the season at 28-4, falling in its second game of the NCAA Tournament.
Maly Sets Bluejays' Three-Point Record
With two treys against Providence on Saturday, February 2 Morgan Maly became Creighton's career record holder with 311 made three-pointers, passing Bluejay great Kathy Halligan (1988-92) at 309 three-point field goals made. Entering the Villanova game Maly now has 314. Also of note, veteran guard Lauren Jensen sits in as fourth, with 280 made three-pointers since coming to Creighton in 2021.
Horan Heating Up
Since being pressed into the starting lineup against #6 Connecticut on January 25, senior Jayme Horan has started to percolate over the last four games. Over the last four contests Horan is 11-for-20 (55.0%) from the field, including 10-for-18 from long range (55.6%). Jayme also has gone 10-for-11 from the charity stripe, accounting for more than half of her 20 free throw attempts this season.
Maly Posts Ninth Career Double-Double
Senior Morgan Maly closed the Bluejays' win over Seton Hall with 16 points and 10 rebounds for her ninth career double-double and second of the 2024-25 season.
