AMES, Iowa -- Taylor Rorick broke her own school-record in the 5,000 meters to pace the Creighton Track teams on Saturday at the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa.
A sophomore from Castle Pines, Colo., Rorick took fifth place in the 5K with a time of 17:31.83 to eclipse her mark of 17:40.91 she had set on Jan. 18 at the Nebraska Classic.
Freshman Bella Gomez had CU's top finish of the day in any event, placing third in the 600-yard race with a time of 1:32.46.
Katie Roche ran the mile in 5:02.62 to cross the finish line 11th, CU's best time of the year in the event.
The Bluejay men competed in four events, highlighted by a seventh-place showing by Ryan Montera in the 5,000 meters in 14:50.48.
Both Logan Piper and Ryan Hendrickson took 18th place in their respective events with season-best efforts. Piper had a time of 8.78 in the 60-meter hurdles, while Hendrickson's needed just 1:53.93 in the 800.
Evan Kraus topped three Bluejays in the mile, taking 19th place overall with a time of 4:16.17.
"It was a solid day on the track," said Creighton head coach Chris Gannon. "We saw some really good marks and made progress from where we were two weeks ago. I'm looking forward to keeping the momentum going at Nebraska in two weeks and then at the BIG EAST Indoor Championships. "
The Bluejay track teams are back in action on Feb. 21st at the Nebraska Tune-Up in Lincoln.
