Men's Tennis Drops Spring Break Opener at Cal Poly, 5-2

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- The Creighton men's tennis team opened its spring break trip to California falling to Cal Poly, 5-2, at the Ranco Tennis Center on Tuesday afternoon in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
The loss dropped the Bluejays to 8-5 on the year, while Cal Poly improved to 7-6 with the win.
Creighton got off to a strong start, earning Tuesday's doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles positions. Senior Ethan Neil and Rocky McKenzie combined for a 6-4 win at the top spot, before junior Yuma Daijima and senior Alejandro Gandini picked up a 7-6 (7-4) win on the No. 3 court to give the Jays a 1-0 lead.
Cal Poly, however, rallied in singles play with wins at the No. 1, No. 2, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles positions to earn the victory.
Raz Haviv took down Kirtan Patel, 6-4, 6-3, on the No. 1 court, while Sean Kamyshev picked up a 4-6, 6-0, 6-0 victory at the No. 2 singles spot. Sean Ferguson then picked up a 6-4, 6-4 win at the No. 4 singles position, followed by a 6-2, 6-1 win at the No. 5 singles spot from Aaron Eliscu. Wian Roothman then closed out the match with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Max Stollecker at the No. 6 siingles position.
Creighton's lone singles win of the day came on the No. 3 singles court as Zachary Kuo captured a 7-5, 1-6, 6-4 win over Jack McGary.
The Bluejays return to action on Wednesday afternoon when they take on UC Santa Barbara at 4:30 p.m.
