Price Leads Men's Golf at Bell Bank "Pay It Forward" Collegiate

First stroke play event of the spring for CU
LITCHFIELD PARK, ARIZ. -- Sophomore Owen Price picked up his first Top 10 finish of the season to lead the Creighton men's golf team to a tie for 11th place at the Bell Bank "Pay It Forward" Collegiate, which wrapped up on Tuesday in Litchfield Park, Ariz. The tournament was CU's first stroke play event of the spring.
Price (68-69-74=211) led the field of 88 golfers after 36 holes following rounds of 68 and 69 on Monday. He closed with a 74 for a 211 total, good enough to share seventh place. It was his best finish since tying for fifth at the Throwdown Up Top at Landmand in October of 2013.
Freshman Gavin Gerch fired loops of 70 and 75 on Monday before closing with an even-par 72, CU's best round on Tuesday. His 217 aggregate tied him for 27th place.
Fellow freshman Henry Kuehne tied for 55th place after circuits of 75, 76 and 72 for a 223 total.
Junior Grant Feldman (79-70-76=225) tied for 64th place. His second round 70 marked the seventh straight tournament he's had at least one round of par or better.
Redshirt freshman Radley Mauney shot scores of 77 and 84 on Monday but was too ill compete in Tuesday's final round.
Iowa State's Zachary May (72-68-66=206) earned medalist honors by two shots over Marquette standout Max Lyons (70-68-70=208). The race for the team title was also a battle between Iowa State (291-278-268=837) and Marquette (272-281-286=839), with the Cyclones making a dramatic comeback on the final day to earn a two-shot victory. Creighton (290-290-295=875) tied UC Santa Barbara (286-297-291=844) for 11th and was one shot behind Omaha (289-299-285=873).
Sixteen teams competed in the event, which was played at Wigwam Resort, a par 72 layout that measured 7,021 yards.
Creighton is back in action at the SeattleU Redhawk Invitational, which starts on Monday in University Place, Wash.
