Third Set Haunts Men’s Tennis in 5-2 Loss to North Dakota

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton men's tennis team dropped a tight doubles point and three different three-set matches in singles play in a 5-2 loss to North Dakota on Saturday afternoon at the Hanscom Tennis Center in Omaha.
The loss dropped the Bluejays to 12-6 on the year, while North Dakota improved to 16-3 with their school-record 12thconsecutive victory.
A tight doubles point early, saw the North Dakota claim wins at the top two doubles positions to clinch the first point of the match. Ange-Kevin Koua and Leandro Zgraggen earned a 6-4 win on the top doubles court, before Ethan Terry and Andrew Hayduke II combined for a 6-2 win on the No. 2 doubles court to give the Fighting Hawks a 1-0 lead.
Freshman Rocky McKenzie leveled the contest with a dominant 6-1, 6-2 win at the No. 5 singles court to secure his five consecutive singles victory.
Tied at 1-1, UND used a straight sets win on the No. 6 singles court from Jerall Yasin to regain a 2-1 lead for the visitors.
Junior Yuma Daijima then battled out a 6-1, 0-6, 6-3 three-set win at the No. 2 singles spot, snapping Leo Galliano's 12-match singles win streak.
North Dakota, however, answered with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 win on the No. 3 singles court from Ange-Kevin Koua to take a 3-2 lead, before Hayduke II clinched the overall dual with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 come-from-behind victory at the No. 4 singles spot. Zgraggen would close out the match with a 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (7-2) win at the top spot to claim the victory.
The Bluejays will wrap up the home portion of the schedule on Sunday when they host North Dakota in a rematch at 9 a.m. inside the Hanscom Tennis Center.
