Men's Basketball Sweeps Final BIG EAST Honors

Ryan Kalkbrenner and Jackson McAndrew recognized
OMAHA, Neb. -- Creighton swept the final men's basketball honors of the season as Ryan Kalkbrenner was named BIG EAST Player of the Week and Jackson McAndrew recognized as BIG EAST Freshman of the Week after helping Creighton to a pair of double-digit wins last week.
Kalkbrenner averaged 23.5 points, 12.0 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 2.0 assists. He shot 73.3 percent from the field, including 22-for-25 from two-point range and also made 3-of-4 free throws. Kalkbrenner started his week with 20 points, nine rebounds and two blocks in a win at Seton Hall where he made 9-of-13 field goal attempts. Kalkbrenner followed it with 27 points and tied his career-high with 15 rebounds in a Senior Day win over Butler. Kalkbrenner added two blocks in each game and finished his career with a league-record 248 in his career in BIG EAST play, one more than Patrick Ewing. Kalkbrenner also set BIG EAST records for league play for games played, minutes and field goal percentage in a week that saw him be named a finalist for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year award.
This is Kalkbrenner's third BIG EAST Player of the Week award this season, joining his plaudits from Nov. 11 and Jan. 20.
McAndrew averaged 15.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game last week. He made 10-of-15 field goal attempts (.667), including 9-of-14 three-point tries (.643). His week started with a season-high 17 points in a 79-61 win at Seton Hall as the freshman made 5-of-8 three-point shots and sank both free throw attempts. The Wayzata, Minnesota native then wrapped up the regular-season with 14 points in an 87-74 win vs. Butler on Saturday as he drained 5-of-7 shots from the floor. It gave him a three-pointer in 10 straight games, breaking his own mark of nine as the longest streak in BIG EAST play program history for a freshman. McAndrew also grabbed six rebounds in each contest.
McAndrew is the first BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honoree for Creighton since Fredrick King on Dec. 19, 2022.
Saturday's win over Butler helped Creighton (22-9, 15-5 BIG EAST) clinch the No. 2 seed in the BIG EAST Tournament presented by JEEP. The Bluejays will play on Thursday night at 6 p.m. Central against the winner of Wednesday's Georgetown/DePaul First Round match-up.
