
Ashworth Named First Team Academic All-American by CSC

Senior guard is program's third such honoree ever
OMAHA, Neb. -- Creighton Basketball's Steven Ashworth has been named a First Team Academic All-American by the College Sports Communicators.
Creighton has now had 53 student-athletes earn a combined 66 Academic All-America awards across all sports. Ashworth joins Rick Apke (1977 and 1978), Brody Deren (2004), Tyler Clement (2018), Michael Lindeman (2003 and 2004), Paul Silas (1964) and Anthony Tolliver (2007) as the only Bluejay men's basketball players ever to earn First, Second or Third-Team CSC Academic All-America distinction. Ashworth is just the 15th different Bluejay student-athlete in all sports to be named a First Team Academic All-American, and just the third men's basketball player to earn First Team Academic All-America status (Clement in 2018, Apke in 1978).
A 6-foot point guard from Alpine, Utah, Ashworth started all 35 of his appearances this season. He averaged 16.4 points and led the BIG EAST with 6.8 assists per game and 93.0 percent marksmanship at the free throw line. Ashworth ranked fourth nationally and set a CU single-season record in free throw percentage, while he finished seventh in the country in assists and 11th in three-pointers made, both of which are second-most in CU history. He became the first player in CU history with at least 500 points and 200 assists in the same season, and finished his career with 1,994 career points, 740 career assists and 394 career three-pointers made. He was named a Second Team All-BIG EAST choice and was a finalist for the Nolan Richardson Award.
Former St. John's guard/forward RJ Luis Jr. was named the Academic All-American of the Year, and joining he and Ashworth on the First Team were Tamin Lipsey (Iowa State), Nick Martinelli (Northwestern) and Stevie Mitchell (Marquette).
To be nominated for College Sports Communicators Academic All-District consideration, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. Nominated athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically and have participated in at least 90 percent of the team's games or started at least 66 percent of the institution's games.
Creighton finished its 2024-25 season with a 25-11 record and are one of four teams nationally to win an NCAA Tournament game each of the past five seasons.
