Women's Golf Opens BIG EAST Championship in Fourth Place

Marshall leads the way
HARDEEVILLE, S.C. -- Creighton is in fourth place after 18 holes of the BIG EAST Women's Golf Championships, Presented by JEEP. CU fired an opening-round 310 and owns its best position at the league championship after one round since 2022.
Sophomore Katharine Marshall led Creighton with a 76 and is tied for eighth place. She was even par through 13 holes before running into trouble down the stretch but still turned in the best BIG EAST Championship performance of her young career.
Morgan Becker's first career round at the BIG EAST Championships saw the junior shoot a 77, good for a tie for 10th place.
Becker is just ahead of teammates Annie Dawson (78, tie-13th), Karsen Morrison (79, tie-17th) and Julia Karmazin (80, tie-21st).
Seton Hall's Marta Aguilar was the only player to shoot in red numbers on Saturday, claiming a 1-under 71 to give her a two-stroke lead over Xavier's Emma Welch (73). Xavier had four players shoot 75 or better as part of an opening-round 298 to take a nine-shot lead over Butler as well as Georgetown (308), Creighton (310), Seton Hall (320) and St. John's (323).
The tournament is being played at Riverton Pointe Golf and Country Club, which measures 6,195 yards on its Par 72 layout.
Round two of the 54-hole event starts on Sunday at 7 a.m. Central.
