Bluejays place third
HARDEEVILLE, S.C. -- Creighton matched its best finish in program history on Monday as it finished the BIG EAST Women's Golf Championships Presented by Jeep in third place. Creighton also placed third in 2020-21 and 2022-23.
Creighton's Katharine Marshall (76-77-75-228) earned her first career Top 10 finish as the sophomore placed 10th. Marshall led all players in the tournament by shooting a par on 37 of the 54 holes. It's the sixth straight season that CU has had a Top 10 finish at the BIG EAST Women's Golf Championship, the league's second-longest active streak.
Morgan Becker (77-75-78=230) was part of a three-way tie for 11th place as the junior had a key birdie on the 17th hole to help CU hang onto third. Becker finished 2-under on par 3's in the tournament, tied for the best mark among any player. Becker's performance for the tournament helped her top the team in scoring average for the season with 77.88, two shots ahead of freshman teammate Julia Karmazin's 77.96 in 26 rounds.
Karmazin (80-80-75=235) birdied her fourth and fifth holes and closed with a final round 75 to tie for 16th place.
Sophomore Annie Dawson (78-79-81=238) tied for 19th place and classmate Karsen Morrison (79-84-83=246) took 27th place.
Xavier (298-294-284=876) ran away with an unprecedented sixth consecutive team title, using a 4-under final round to claim a 23-stroke victory over runner-up Georgetown (308-296-295=899). Creighton (310-311-309=930) placed third, just ahead of Seton Hall (320-304-308=932) and Butler (307-316-310=933), while St. John's (323-315-313=951) rounded out the field in sixth. CU entered the tournament predicted to finish sixth.
All five Xavier competitors finished in the top 10, led by Emma Welch (73-75-68=216). Welch's final-round 68 helped her join former Creighton standout Katherine Lemke as the second player in BIG EAST history to win back-to-back league titles. Xavier's Madison Reemsnyder (75-73-70-218) took second while Seton Hall's Marta Aguilar (71-77-72=220) and second-round leader Kara Carter (75-72-73=220) from Xavier tied for third place.
The tournament was held at Riverton Pointe Golf and Country Club, which measured 6,195 yards on Saturday and Monday but was 6,092 yards on Sunday on its Par 72 layout.
The tournament was the final competition for the 2024-25 season for Creighton.
