Bluejays add MEAC Player of the Year
OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton men's basketball team added to its transfer portal haul on Thursday with the signing of Howard transfer Blake Harper. Harper is a 6-foot-8 guard who will have three seasons of eligibility remaining.
Harper averaged 19.5 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.4 rebounds while starting all 32 games for the Bison last season. He was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Player of the Year as well as HBCU National Player of the Year following a standout campaign that saw him be named MEAC Player of the Week three times. After winning the MEAC Rookie of the Week honor all 18 weeks of the season, it should come as no surprise that Harper was also tabbed the league's Rookie of the Year. On campus, Harper landed Male Athlete of the Year and Male Newcomer of the Year acclaim at Howard's annual Blue Carpet Award Ceremony last week.
The Washington, D.C., native ranked 28th nationally in points per game, which ranked second-best nationally among freshmen. He was also fourth in the country with 221 free throws made and was one of two freshmen in the country to own a triple-double last season. Harper and likely No. 1 pick Cooper Flagg of Duke were the nation's only freshmen to be named Conference Player of the Year in 2024-25.
"Blake Harper has talent with the drive and maturity to match," said Creighton head coach Greg McDermott. "After a great freshman season at Howard, he's proven he can impact the game. What excites me most is how seamlessly his versatility and work ethic fit into our culture. Bluejay fans are going to love what they see."
Harper joins a talented group of Bluejay newcomers that includes incoming freshmen Hudson Greer and Aleksa Dimitrijevic, as well as Iowa transfers Owen Freeman and Josh Dix, Charlotte transfer Nik Graves and Miami (Fla.) transfer Austin Swartz. The group has been ranked among the nation's best incoming classes.
Creighton finished its 2024-25 season with a 25-11 record and are one of four teams nationally to win an NCAA Tournament game each of the past five seasons.
