Omaha, Neb. -- Former Bluejay Ryan Fitzgerald (2013-16) made his Major League Baseball (MLB) debut with the Minnesota Twins on Friday, May 16 after being called up earlier in the day.
Fitzgerald went 0-for-3, playing second base after entering the game as a defensive replacement in the bottom of the second.
His journey to the MLB has began as an undrafted free agent in 2016. Ryan played independent baseball in 2016, then moved on to play for the Gary South Shore RailCats in 2017. The following season he earned a tryout with the Boston Red Sox, signing a minor league deal. Fitzgerald played in the Red Sox organization until the 2024 season, when he signed with the Royals. He played for the AAA Omaha Storm Chasers during the 2024 campaign. At the onset of the 2025 season, Fitzgerald inked a new deal with Minnesota, playing with the Saint Paul Saints until getting the call today.
Fitzgerald is the last Bluejay to complete a cycle, doing so against Villanova on May 14, 2015.
