Women’s Soccer Drops Season Opener at Oklahoma, 4-1

NORMAN, Okla. – A late first half goal from junior Ella Luna leveled the match at 1-1 heading to intermission, but it wasn't enough as the Creighton Women's Soccer team dropped a 4-1 decision at Oklahoma on Thursday night in the season opener.
The loss dropped the Bluejays to 0-1-0 on the year, falling to 17-16-4 all-time in season-opening matches.
Oklahoma jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the ninth minute of play, as Naomi Clark headed home a corner kick from Lexi Dendis.
The Bluejays battled back, delivering the equalizing goal in the 41st minute when Luna found the back of the net for the first time in her career off the rebound of teammate Jalen Chaney's shot attempt to make the score 1-1.
Oklahoma quickly took control of the match, scoring three times in the first 15 minute of the second half.
Dendis put the Sooners out in front with a goal in the 54th minute, while Clark rebounded her own miss and hammered home her second goal of the match in the 56th minute to give Oklahoma a 3-1 advantage.
Three minutes later Claire Curran touched the back of the net on a one-timer from the top of the box to secure the 4-1 victory for the Sooners.
Oklahoma closed the match with a 15-10 edge in shots and an 8-3 edge in corner kicks while Alyssa Zalac recorded five saves in the loss.
Creighton remains on the road and returns to the pitch on Sunday, Aug. 17 as they battle Kansas City at 1 p.m.
