Women’s Tennis Opens Fall Season with 17 Victories at Augustana Invite

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Four different Bluejays advanced to their singles main draw finals as the Creighton women's tennis team posted 13 singles wins and four doubles victories during the first day of competition at the Augustana Invite in Sioux Falls, S.D. on Saturday, Sept. 13.
The Bluejays' weekend trip to South Dakota marked the beginning of the 2025 fall schedule.
Sophomore Sophie Schwartz got the Bluejays started in singles play, advancing to the Flight A Singles Main Draw Finals with a pair of straight-sets win of Nebraska-Kearney's Faviana Gamboa (6-2, 6-1) and Omaha's Khaylia Buckels (7-6 (7-2), 6-0).
Freshman Teresa Tran made her collegiate debut, serving up a 4-6, 6-1, 11-9 come-from-behind victory over Augustana's Mia Garcia, before falling to Omaha's Nina Wiese, 6-3, 6-3 in the Flight A Semifinals.
Freshman Mithila Dixit, meanwhile, had herself a strong start to the season, picking up straight-set wins over UNK's Agustina Abdo (6-0, 6-1) and Augie's Simon-Maria Karaouza (6-4, 6-3) to advance to the Flight C Title match tomorrow.
Sophomore's Karli Vo and Olivia Minikel both cruised to a pair of victories in Flight E. Vo took down Mankato's Alma Regina Vazquez Rioja, 6-0, 6-2, in the quarterfinals, before blowing past Lainy Ristau, 6-1, 6-1 in the semifinals. She will take on fellow Minikel in the finals after she defeated South Dakota's Ketevan Shavishvili 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) and Mankato's McKenna DeMarce, 6-2, 6-3.
Ana Paula Martinez, Alem Cote, Annika Elvestrom and Livia Rodrigues Daud also picked up one singles win this afternoon.
In doubles action, the Bluejays had four separate doubles teams advance to their flight semifinals. The pair of Tran and Schwartz got the action started with an 8-5 win over South Dakota's Kayleigh Didderiens and Ketevan Shavishvili, while Martinez and Dixit rolled to a 8-3 win over UNK's Hannah Klaiber and Patricija Cechanaviciute in the Flight A bracket.
Elvestrom and sophomore Philippa Roy teamed up for an 8-6 win over Augustana's Simon-Maria Karaouza and Smilte Bakyte in Flight B, while Minikel and Vo took down Winona State's Nikita Agrawal and Alexandra Madjun, 8-5, in Flight C.
Creighton Concludes play at the Augustana Invite on Sunday morning.
