Women’s Tennis Dominates Day One of Creighton/Omaha Invite with 18 Victories

OMAHA, Neb. – The Creighton women's tennis team dominated day one of the Creighton/Omaha Invite, securing 18 total victories on Friday, Sept. 26 at the Koch Family Tennis Center in Omaha, Neb.
The Bluejays tallied a 9-1 record in doubles play, before grinding out nine additional wins during singles play.
Ana Paula Martinez and Philippa Roy went 2-0 in doubles, opening the day with a 7-5 triumph over Gustavus Adolphus Karina Elvestrom and Kaya DeBruijn, before rolling to a 6-1 win over Nebraska Kearney's Hannah Klaiber and Julia Wartecka in the second round.
Teresa Tran and Olivia Minikel posted an identical 2-0 mark in doubles, battling to a 7-5 victory over Oral Robert's Buzko and Deer, before capping off the morning session with a 6-0 win over UNK's Abdo and Ben Aba.
Karli Vo and Livia Rodrigues Daud continued the Bluejays double success with a 6-1 win over Omaha's Shannon and Greenwald and a 6-3 victory over Gustavus Adolphus' Yamimova and Brakhage.
Annika Elvestrom and Elsa Jurrens also recorded a perfect 2-0 doubles record, claiming a 7-6 (7-2) win over Gustavus Adolphus Brakhage and Rosenhan before capturing a 6-3 win over Omaha's Shannon and Greenwald.
Creighton's Sophia Schwartz and Mithila Dixit cruised to a 6-0 win over ORU's Noor and Franzin in the first round of doubles play but dropped their second match to Omaha's Weise and Kock, 6-3 to close out doubles action.
The Bluejays continued their domination in singles actions as Schwartz picked up a 6-2, 6-3 win over Patricija Cechanaviciute in Flight A, while Martinez grinded out a 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 straight sets win in Flight B.
Dixit held off North Dakota's Ethel Li , 6-1, 3-6, 11-9 in the Flight B Quarterfinals, while Tran picked up a 6-4, 6-4 victory in Flight C. Elvestrom rolled to a 6-1, 6-2 win over Omaha's Grace Greenwald in Flight D, where Roy also cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Gustavus' Elena Davis.
Flight E saw Minikel battled out a 6-4, 3-6, 10-6 three-set win over Gustavus' Ella De Young, while Jurrens and Vo captured identical 6-1, 6-2 straight set victories to advance in the Main Draws of Flight G.
The Bluejays will wrap up the Creighton/Omaha Invite with one round of doubles and two rounds of singles on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m.
