OMAHA, Neb. – Powered by three second half goals from freshman Jalen Chaney and junior Clara Kulick, the Creighton women's soccer team battled No. 13 Arkansas to a 3-3 draw on Friday night in front of a pack house of 3,673, the largest home crowd in program history, during the Bluejays' 13th annual Socctoberfest match.
With the draw the Bluejays moved to 1-4-1 on the year, while moving to 6-1-4 in Socctoberfest matches. The nationally ranked Razorbacks meanwhile, moved to 2-2-2 overall. Arguably the best result in program history, Friday marked the first time in program history that Creighton has earned a result against a top-25 opponent in consecutive seasons.
Trailing 2-0 heading into the break, Creighton quickly flipped the momentum in their favor scoring three times in a span of eight minutes to take a 3-2 lead. Junior Clara Kulick got the Jays going, netting the first goal of her career in the 63rd minute after chipping in a rebounded shot from Ariana Mondiri.
Six minutes later the Bluejays took advantage of an Arkansas miscue to deliver the equalizer in the 69th minute. Senior transfer Tori Gillis recovered a loose ball in the open field and delivered a beautifully placed cross to the back post, where Chaney headed home the first goal of her career to level the contest at 2-2.
Creighton would then take its first lead of the match less than two minutes later, when Chaney blocked a free kick attempt from the Arkansas goalkeeper and buried a shot from just outside the top of the 18-yard to give the Jays a 3-2 advantage with the first brace of her collegiate career.
Arkansas, meanwhile, answered with a goal in the 85th minute to earn a 3-3 draw.
The Razorback built momentum early, grabbing a 1-0 lead in the second minute of play on a goal from Zoe Susi before Natalie Wagner gave the Razorbacks a 2-0 lead with her first goal of the season in the 44th minute.
Creighton and Arkansas closed the match with 11 shots each, with the Jays holding a 7-6 edge in shots on goal. The Razorbacks held a 6-5 lead in corners created, while senior Alyssa Zalac grabbed four save in the draw.
Creighton returns to the pitch on Wednesday, Sept. 10 as the Jays face crosstown rival Omaha in the Bluejays annual Kicks For A Cure match at 5 p.m.
