About Marquette
The Golden Eagles boast a five game win streak ahead of their second meeting with the Bluejays in a month.
Marquette defeated the likes of St. John's, Butler, DePaul and Georgetown, extending the winning streak with a victory most recently over Providence at home.
Shooting 60 percent from beyond the arc in the second and fourth quarters helped offset Providence's dominance on the boards, as the Friars held a 14-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. By the end of 40 minutes, the Marquette squad accumulated 51.7% shooting from the field, in the same breath holding Providence to just 35.5%.
Â
Skylar Forbes, Lee Volker and Halle Vice scored in double digits in Marquette's 78-61 win over the Friars. The Golden Eagles' leading scorer, Forbes, paced the Marquette squad with 22 points, while Volker followed with19 and Vice tallied 15 points.Â
Marquette's top scorers against the visiting Friars also lead the team this season in average points per game. Forbes leads with 15.1, while Vice averages 14.3 and Volker records 12.1 per game.Â
The title of top rebounder this season also goes to Vice, who spearheads the game on the boards with 9.1 per game. Vice pulled down 10 rebounds against Providence.
Scouting Creighton 11-12, 7-7 BIG EAST)
Creighton's win streak is up to three ahead of its rematch with the visiting Golden Eagles.
A dominating 30-point win over St. John's kick started the trifecta of wins while a nail biting, two point win over Georgetown, 64-62, most recently added the third win to the streak. Â
Put in the position to win the game thanks to a career-high 31 points from freshman Neleigh Gessert and bolstered by her own nine point, 17 rebound outing, graduate forward Grace Boffeli secured the game in the final two seconds of the matchup.Â
With the score tied at 62 apiece, and the game clock at less than five, Boffeli saw an opening to the basket, driving and scoring her ninth point of the night in crunch time.Â
Over the 40 minute contest, the Bluejays outrebounded the Hoyas 38-31 and posted a collective 46.8% shooting from the field.Â
Pairing with Gessert's 31 and Boffeli's nine points, freshman Ava Zediker also reached double-figures, pairing 11 points with four assists and a perfect 3-of3 from beyond the arc.
Keys to the Game
Recap of First Meeting: 1-8-26
Marquette 67, Creighton 49
Creighton and Marquette's second meeting of the season comes exactly one month after the two teams met in Milwaukee in January.
In that first contest, the third quarter proved the nail in the coffin for the Bluejays after a close battle in the first half that ended with a slight 29-24 advantage in favor of the Golden Eagles.
Coming out of the break, the Bluejays shot just 1-of-13 from the field (7.7%) and couldn't connect on any of their six three point attempts. That same quarter, Marquette shot 46.2%, outscoring Creighton 15-2 and heading into the fourth with a now commanding 44-26 lead.
Though the Bluejays ramped their scoring percentage back up to 50% in the fourth quarter, the rallying effort wasn't enough to overcome the deficit.
Marquette collected a 35-26 rebounding advantage and scored 36 points in the paint, limiting Creighton to just 12. Olivia Porter led the Golden Eagle roster with 23 points, while Skylar Forbes recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Halle Vice and Jaidynn Mason also picked up 10 points apiece.
On the Bluejay side, freshman Kendall McGee was the only player in double figures, scoring 14. Boffeli was closes, with eight points, while Zediker was quiet, racking up just four points
Boffeli Celebrates Birthday With a Gift to Bluejay Nation
Celebrating her birthday in both a dominant and unique manner, Boffeli grabbed 17 rebounds to earn a tie for 10th in single-game history. However it was her decision in the final seconds that she may remember the most. Locked in a 62-62 contest, Boffeli faked a pass to Zediker, then wheeled left to a wide open lane for the game-winning layup to defeat Georgetown 64-62 on Feb. 4.
Neleigh Gessert Sets D.J. Sokol Arena Freshman Mark with 31 Points, Third Most By Freshman In Creighton History
Already having posted an impressive first season as a Bluejay, Neleigh Gessert took her performance to another level with 31 points in Creighton's 64-62 win over Georgetown on Feb. 4.Â
Gessert's total ranks behind only Connie Yori's 42-point effort at Iowa State on Dec. 12, 1982 and Shannon Struby's 34 points at San Diego State on Feb. 23, 1991.
She closed the meeting with the Hoyas 13-for-23 from the field, including 5-for-12 from long range.
Boffeli's Grabs Most Rebounds Since 2011
Grace Boffeli's 17 rebound effort in the Bluejays' 64-62 win over Georgetown was the most by a Bluejay since Sarah Nelson closed the battle with South Dakota with 17 on Nov. 22, 2011. The 17-rebound effort moved Boffeli into a four-way tie for the 10th most in a single game. She also surpassed 1,100 career rebounds in the win over Georgetown.
Neleigh Gessert Returns to Top-10 in Made Three-Point Field GoalsÂ
Freshman Neleigh Gessert enters the game with Marquette back in the Top-10 of the NCAA with 72 made three-point field goals. She is just two back of second place, tied at sixth (as of Feb. 6). She trails the NCAA leader, Brianna Rivera (Samford), who has 83 made treys.

Keys to the Game
- Establish Boffeli Early: The Golden Eagles held Boffeli to just eight points in the first meeting, capturing a 36-12 edge in points in the paint in the contest. A win over Marquette this time around will require getting Boffeli touches and allowing her to work in the paint.Â
- Confident Control Beyond the Arc: Collective 32.1% shooting from the 3-point line hurt the Bluejays' chance of coming out of Milwaukee with a win the first time. Now, the Jays are riding three games with eight-plus threes. Channeling that confidence and outshooting the Golden Eagles from beyond the arc is critical.
- Rebounding: In the two team's first meeting, Marquette controlled the glass 35-26 and Creighton's leading rebounder, Boffeli, only recorded four. Getting the win in this second meeting means limiting Marquette to one shot per possession, ultimately winning the battle on the glass.
