Creighton's best chance to pull even came in the eighth as the Bluejays worked a pair of walks around a single from Isaac Wachsmann to load the bags. A balk pushed in one run and moved the tying run into scoring position at second base, but Teddy Deters hot shot up the middle was snagged to end the end the threat.

Creighton starter Jack Pineau took the loss (7-3), allowing three runs on five hits and four walks. St. John's reliever Victor Frederick collected his fifth save of the season with a scoreless ninth.
