USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – Despite out shooting their opponent 21-8 and holding a 10-4 edge in corners, the Creighton women's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to Air Force on Sunday, Aug. 16 at the Air Force Academy in Colorado.
The loss dropped the Bluejays to 0-2-0 on the season, while the Falcons climbed to 2-0-0 overall.
Creighton came out attacking early, recording three shots through the opening 17 minutes. Air Force, however, capitalized on its first shot attempt, claiming an early 1-0 lead in the 20th minute (19:05) as Addie Doyle struck the back of the net for the first time this season.
Creighton would answer less than four minutes later, leveling the match at 1-1 when sophomore Jalen Chaney finished off a cross into the box from junior Anna Bragg for her first goal of the year.
The Falcons countered right back and reclaimed the lead in the 31st minute when Nalei Channon found Elizabeth McCarron on the run at the near post to give Air Force a 2-1 advantage.
Air Force would tack on an insurance goal in the closing minutes of the first half as Gianna Gigliotti hammered home a corner kick insertion from Nai'a Garana at the back post to extend the Falcons lead to 3-1.
Creighton's offense created chance after chance in both halves, firing off eight shots in the opening period and 13 more in the second half. In spite of the volume of attack, Air Force goalkeeper Sydney Nelms collected eight saves to secure her first win of the season.
Creighton returns to the pitch on Sunday, Aug. 23 at 6 p.m. when the Bluejays travel to Ames, Iowa to battle Iowa State in the third annual Tea Cup match.
