Women’s Soccer Battles Iowa State to Scoreless Draw in Third Annual Tea Cup Match

AMES, Iowa – In a match that saw a combined seven yellow cards and 28 fouls, the Creighton women's soccer team battled Iowa State to a physical 0-0 draw on Sunday night in the third annual Tea Cup match at the Cyclone Sports Complex in Ames, Iowa.

The draw moves Creighton to 0-2-1 on the season, while Iowa State moves to 2-1-1 overall.

Much like the last two meetings, both teams played a very tight and physical match with neither team taking advantage of their chances in the opening 45 minutes of the contest.

Iowa State controlled possession throughout the early portion of the contest, firing all eight of their first half shots in the first 25 minutes of the half. Creighton, meanwhile, flipped the script and in the final 20 minutes, but headed to the break scoreless.

Creighton continued to pressure the Cyclones early in the second half with its best scoring chances coming in the 57^th and 70^th minutes as junior Anna Bragg and sophomore Olivia Sides had dangerous shots denied in the box.

Iowa State, however, upped its offensive intensity in the final 20 minutes, putting its best chance of the match on frame in the 83^rd minute as fifth-year goalkeeper Kailey Hall smothered a long distance shot from Sophie Forrester to preserve the scoreless draw.

Iowa State finished the match with a 15-7 edge in shots, while the Bluejays owned a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Creighton will return to Morrison Stadium and open the home portion of the scheduled on Thursday, August 27 against Kansas City with kickoff set for 4:30 p.m.
