Cam Johnson joined the Creighton baseball staff in the fall of 2022 as an assistant coach. He is responsible for working with outfielders, coordinating prospect and youth camps for the Bluejays and assisting with offense.
Before Creighton, Johnson coached at Des Moines Area Community College in Boone, Iowa, from 2018-2021. After joining the DMACC coaching staff in 2018, he helped make various improvements to the program. Johnson assisted in developing numerous hitting and defensive strategies for the Bears. He also led the strength and conditioning program and assisted in the recruitment of new DMACC baseball players. In Johnson’s first year at DMACC, he helped the Bears achieve the ICCAC regular-season title. Since 2018, Johnson has assisted in sending over 40 players to four-year schools and saw one former player, Austin Murr, selected by the Detroit Tigers in the sixth round of the 2021 MLB Draft.
During the summer of 2022, Johnson was the head coach of the Badlands Big Sticks located in Dickinson, North Dakota. He directed the Big Sticks to a 31-win season and helped the team secure a place in the divisional playoffs. He coached many successful players, including current Bluejay Cooper Dulich.
Johnson attended Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa where he was a part of over 120 wins over his four-year baseball career. In 2017, Johnson received his Bachelor of Arts in Exercise Science with a minor in Coaching from Buena Vista.
