Paul Weidner joined the Creighton Baseball staff in the fall of 2018 as the Bluejays’ volunteer assistant coach.
Weidner’s responsibilities include the development of outfielders and assisting with Creighton’s hitting program. He also serves as the coordinator of Creighton camps and during games Weidner is the first base coach. During his first season with the Bluejays, Weidner helped guide Creighton back to the NCAA Tournament, the program’s first postseason berth since 2012.
Weidner’s work helped the Bluejays post an impressive 67 home runs, including 25 from outfielders Parker Upton and Will Robertson. The squad also put up 379 runs in 54 games, better than seven per contest.
Defensively Weidner helped freshman Will Hanafan take over center field flawlessly, not committing an error in 142 chances. As a team the Bluejay outfielders delivered seven assists, including four by Hanafan.
Weidner’s efforts coaching first base helped the Bluejays have just one runner picked off in 2019, the lowest total since head coach Ed Servais took the Bluejay reigns in 2004.
Paul came to Creighton after spending the summer of 2018 working with Robertson and the Cotuit Kettleers in the Cape Cod League. He also served as the assistant coach for Bethel University (St. Paul, Minnesota) from 2015-18, where Weidner played baseball from 2011-15.
Paul and his wife, Olivia, welcomed their first child, Brooks, late in 2019.
