Getting to Know Tate Gillen
- One of only three players for the Bluejays to start in all 59 games, Gillen had 238 at-bats and 63 hits, leading to a batting average of .265.
- Tate was third on the team in hits (63), runs scored (46) and doubles (13).
- He was also fifth for the Bluejays in RBI (40) and home runs (5).
- Tate delivered 17 multi-hit games, including four contests with three hits.
- He posted 10 multi-RBI contests, with two games of three RBI or more.
- In a 12-7 win against Butler on May 2, Gillen scored three runs, recorded three hits and stole three bases.Â
- On May 17, Tate helped Creighton to a 12-1 win, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI.
- Tate went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI in the Bluejays’ 11-4 win over Kansas in the NCAA Regionals on May 31.
2024 (Sophomore)
- Leading Creighton to a 2-0 start at the season opener vs. Coppin State, Tate went 5-for-7 (.714), recording four runs scored, two stolen bases, and five RBI, which earned him BIG EAST Player of the Week on February 19.
- Gillen played in 33 games, earning 32 starts, 27 of those in center field where he ended the season with a perfect fielding percentage.
- At the plate, he slashed .319/.480/.451 scoring 35 runs, including two home runs, five doubles, two triples, 27 RBI and 12 stolen bases.Â
- Tate delivered 11 multi-hit games, being one of five Bluejays to have four hits in one game, and seven multi-RBI games.
2023 (Redshirt Freshman)
- Tate appeared in 34 contests, including 24 starts, closing the season third on the team with a .299 average.
- Gillen had 23 hits, 19 runs scored, four doubles and seven RBI.Â
- Before his season was cut short on April 25, Tate was hitting his stride with six hits and six runs scored over four games (6-for-11 against St. John’s and UNLV).
- His best game of the season came against Georgetown in Creighton’s 15-11 victory on April 14, delivering three hits (3-for-4) with an RBI and two runs scored.Â
- Gillen also posted a three-hit performance (3-for-3) to help the Bluejays best Minnesota 5-2 on March 24.
2022 (Freshman)
- After playing four games, Gillen missed the rest of the season due to injury.
- Making his first career start in center field in the season opener against Portland on Feb. 18, Tate went 1-for-3 at the plate with his first career hit, a single.
2017-21 (Blue Valley HS)
- Gillen was considered a top-20 player in Kansas by both Prep BaseballÂ
- Report and Perfect Game and ranked in the top-five among outfielders in his class.
- Tate led the Tigers to a Kansas 6A State Championship title during his senior season.
- Gillen batted .389 in 2021 and earned First Team All-Eastern Kansas League and First Team All-State.
- Tate, a three-year letter winner on Blue Valley’s baseball team and star on the Tigers football team, was selected BVHS Athlete of the Year his senior year.
