Corey Edwards returns to Creighton as an assistant coach and will work alongside Alan Huss for the fourth time in the past six seasons.
Edwards brings a strong background of experience in player development, recruiting and championship-level culture building. He plays a pivotal role in coaching CU’s backcourt players while also contributing to game strategy and practice planning.
Edwards is no stranger to Omaha, serving as a graduate assistant on Creighton’s staff in 2021-22. That Bluejay team went 23-12, reached the BIG EAST Tournament title game, and advanced to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament, before falling to eventual national champion Kansas.
Edwards spent the previous three seasons at High Point, helping the Panthers go 87-20 while winning the Big South regular-season title each campaign, as well as the league tournament in both 2025 and 2026. HPU’s 87 victories in the previous three years were tied for the fifth-most nationally behind only Duke, Houston, Connecticut and Purdue.
High Point made its first NCAA Tournament in 2025, then won its first NCAA Tournament game ever in 2026 with an upset victory over Wisconsin.
Before arriving at High Point, Edwards spent the 2022-23 season as an assistant coach at Drake under former Bluejay assistant Darian DeVries, where he helped orchestrate a 27-8 overall record, a runner-up finish in the Missouri Valley Conference and an NCAA Tournament appearance.
While Edwards was at Drake, he played a key role in the development of standout guards Roman Penn and Connor Enright. Penn was named First Team All-MVC and led The Valley in both assists per game (5.4) and assist/turnover ratio (2.8).
Edwards got his start at the Division I level as a graduate assistant at Creighton during the 2021-22 season under Greg McDermott, where he worked with Huss for the first time.
Edwards has also made a profound impact at both the high school and grassroots level. He was an assistant at Christ The King Regional High School in New York during the 2017-18 season, where he continued to build his reputation as a skilled developer of young talent. Before that he coached with New Heights AAU from 2015-17, working with some of the top up-and-coming prospects at the grassroots level such as Precious Achiuwa.
He also spent time as an assistant coach at The Patrick School in New Jersey during the 2020-21 season and previously worked at Montverde Academy in 2019-20, contributing to the team’s MaxPreps National Championship.
At Montverde, he played a key role in the development of seven future NBA players, including Cade Cunningham, Scottie Barnes, Moses Moody, Caleb Houstan, Day’Ron Sharpe, Dariq Whitehead and ex-Bluejay playmaker Ryan Nembhard.
A native of New York City, Edwards played collegiate basketball at George Mason University from 2011-15, where he started 62 games and served as a two-time team captain.
