- Saunders appeared in 33 games, including three starts.
- She delivered 178 points and 113 rebounds.
- After missing the final 16 games of the 2020-21 season, Saunders returned to the floor in the season opener at Drake on Nov. 10.
- Rachael found ways to impact Creighton’s 67-55 win over South Dakota State on Nov. 21, grabbing eight rebounds, dishing two assists and snatching a pair of steals.
- Saunders provided a spark off the bench with nine points and five rebounds in the Bluejays’ 79-72 win over Northern Iowa on Nov. 27.
- Rachael reached double-figures for the second straight game on Dec. 21 with 12 points in the Bluejays’ 81-72 win at Arkansas.
- Saunders posted 10 points in 19 minutes to help the Bluejays best DePaul on Feb. 2 in Chicago.
- Following the 2021-22 season Saunders completed her undergraduate degree in finance and marketing with Cum Laude recognition.
2020-21 (Junior)
- Saunders was limited to just six games during the 2020-21 season due to injuries. She started all six contests, closing the season with 49 points (8.2 ppg) and 19 rebounds (3.2 rpg).
- Rachael delivered 12 points, including nine in the opening quarter, as the Bluejays went on to defeat Butler 88-41 on Dec. 6.
- Rachael was the offensive spark for the Bluejays in a 78-62 win over Nebraska on Dec. 14 with 13 points, a career-high in field goal attempts with 11 and equaling a career-high in made field goals (5).
- Rachael was lost for the season due to a knee injury in the Bluejays’ loss at No. 3 Connecticut on Dec. 17.
- Prior to the season Rachael served as the host/moderator for one of Creighton’s discussions on racism. This particular discussion featured former Bluejay men’s basketball player Kyle Korver.
2019-20 (Sophomore)
- Saunders appeared in 24 contests in 2019-20, making 10 starts.
- She closed the season with 159 points, 123 rebounds and 37 assists, posting double-figures in points eight times and twice in rebounds.
- Rachael made her season debut against No. 23 West Virginia in the Bluejays’ 82-75 win at the Cancun Challenge, grabbing two points and two rebounds in 11 minutes.
- Making her first start as a Bluejay, Rachael posted eight career-highs, grabbing a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds in Creighton’s 57-54 win over Northern Iowa on Dec. 7.
- Saunders topped double-figures on the glass for the second consecutive game, grabbing 13 rebounds in Creighton’s 56-46 win over Wichita State on Dec. 14.
- Rachael delivered a game defining trey in the final minute to secure the Bluejays’ 72-62 win over Marquette on Jan. 3.
- Rachael equaled her career-high with 14 points on 5-of-9 from field at Seton Hall on Jan. 17.
- Saunders came through in the last position of the third
- quarter and first of the fourth with critical baskets on back cuts in Creighton’s 63-61 win over No. 11 DePaul on Jan. 31st.
- Saunders tied her career-high with 14 points on 4-of-5
- shooting, including a perfect 2-of-2 from long range, while dishing out a career-high five assists in the Bluejays 76-62
- win over Xavier on Feb. 23rd.
- Rachel swiped six steals to tie the D.J. Sokol Arena record for thefts by a Bluejay in Creighton’s 67-47 win over Villanova on Feb. 28th.
2018-19 (Freshman)
- Rachael saw time in all 31 games for the Bluejays in 2018-19.
- She closed the season playing 321 minutes while scoring 93 points and collecting 62 rebounds.
- Saunders was flawless in her first two games as a Bluejay (Nov. 7 vs. South Dakota and Nov. 9 at North Dakota State), hitting four shots.
- Her first New York trip saw Rachael go a perfect 5-for-5 from the field at Seton Hall (2-of-2) and St. John’s (3-for-3) in 21 combined minutes.
- Saunders preserved Creighton’s 53-52 win at Xavier on Feb. 17 with a block in the closing seconds, she closed the game with six points as well.
- Rachael knocked down each of her three shots from the field as well as one free throw, notching seven points in the Bluejays’ 73-64 win at Providence on Feb. 23.
- Saunders was a bolt of energy off the bench with six points and a pair of rebounds in Creighton’s upset win over No. 13 Marquette (71-65) on March 1.
Iowa City West High School
- Saunders led the Trojans to a combined 77-22 record over four seasons, culminating in a state championship following the 2017-18 season.
- Two additional trips to the state tournament yielded third-place finishes for Saunders and Iowa City West HS.
- A four-year letterwinner, Rachael collected three Mississippi Valley First Team honors.
- She also played in the Iowa All-Star game as a senior.
- Off the court Saunders also collected letters in softball (two) and soccer (one).
- In the classroom Rachael closed her high school career with a 3.93 GPA.
Personal
- Rachael’s father Mike played football at Iowa, while her mother Heather was a golfer and swimmer at Luther College.
