Taylor Somers

An Omaha native, Taylor Somers returned to her hometown to join the Creighton staff in July of 2026 as assistant coach for the Bluejay cross country and track programs.
Somers served as an assistant coach on Oklahoma State's 2023-24 men's and women's cross country and track teams. The Cowboy men won the NCAA cross country title with five All-Americans, while the Cowgirl women placed third with three All-Americans. Additionally both OSU teams finished in the Top 10 at the 2024 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, and in the Top 30 at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. OSU's indoor distance medley relay team won the national title on the men's side.
Somers competed collegiately at Oklahoma State from 2017-23, where she was an All-American in cross country in 2019 after finishing 18th at the NCAA Championships. That same year she earned All-Big 12 honors after finishing as the runner-up at both the Big 12 Championships as well as the NCAA Midwest Regional in cross country.
Other highlights of Somers career at OSU include earning All-Big 12 honors in 2018 in cross country, All-Big 12 honors in the 5,000 meters in 2019 in indoor track and All-Big 12 accolades in outdoor track in the 10,000 in 2019, in addition to being part of a champion 4x1600 meter relay team at the 2019 Drake Relays.
Somers was also a three-time First Team Academic All-Big 12 pick, graduating Summa Cum Laude with a 4.0 GPA while earning a bachelor of arts degree in Psychology and a Sociology minor in 2021. Two years later Somers picked up a master of science degree in Sociology from Oklahoma State.
As a prep, Somers was a six-time state champion at Millard South High School, winning the cross country state title twice while also bringing home four state championships in track. She was also an All-State Academic honoree.
Most recently, Somers has worked the past two years with Black Squirrel Timing, assisting in recording and publishing accurate and reliable race results while working to help organize, prepare and operate all necessary timing equipment and finish line cameras.
