Brandon Tormoehlen enters his first season as an assistant coach for the Creighton Baseball program. His on the field duties will include coaching the catchers as well as assisting with the hitters and running the bullpen during games. Off the field, he will assist with on-campus recruiting as well as other day-to-day baseball operations.
This past summer Tormoehlen was the head coach of the Grand Lake Mariners of the Great Lakes Collegiate Summer League. His squad finished the season with a 25-10 mark, good enough for 2nd place in the league. He also led the Blue Team to a victory in the league's all-star game.
Last year, Tormoehlen was an assistant coach at Indiana Tech, a NAIA program in Fort Wayne, Ind. There he coached the hitters as well as the catchers and outfielders. Off the field, he was in charge of the team's strength and conditioning program along with coordinating team travel arrangements and recruiting.
Prior to Fort Wayne, Tormoehlen spent two seasons as a high-school JV coach. He coached for Noblesville HS in the 2007-2008 season and Bishop Chatard HS in the 2005-2006 season. During the summers of 2007 and 2008, he was a head coach in the Indiana Bulls Baseball Organization; one of the nation's premier amateur travel baseball organizations.
Tormoehlen played his collegiate ball at Butler University under Head Coach Steve Farley. He saw action behind the plate as the team's starting catcher for the 2004 and 2005 seasons; but a torn labrum sidelined him for his 2006 senior year. After a successful rehab of his throwing shoulder, he was able to get back to action as a role player on the 2007 squad. During his career he compiled a .972 fielding percentage.
Brandon graduated valedictorian from Brownstown Central High School in Brownstown, Ind., and graduated from Butler University in 2006 with a degree in Secondary Education. He sent two years in the classroom teaching high school mathematics before moving to Omaha, where he currently resides.
