DeFini started all 77 games he played in at Creighton, finishing his career holding or tying 21 Creighton single-game, single-season or career marks. Twelve years after his graduation, 10 of these records remain. Those remaining marks include career points (162), goals (68), multiple-goal games (17) and hat tricks (7) as well as single-game marks for points (10) and goals (4).
As a senior, DeFini was named first-team All-American by Soccer America and the National Soccer Coaches Association after leading the Bluejays with 21 goals. He was also a finalist for the Hermann Award and the Missouri Athletic Club National Player of the Year. Along the way, Creighton went 19-1 and was ranked No. 1 in the country for the final five weeks of the regular-season. In 1994, he was named co-recipient of the Omaha World Herald’s Frederick Ware Award as the state’s top collegiate athlete.
DeFini had 16 goals and seven assists as a junior to earn all-Midwest Region accolades. He was a first-team all-MVC selection in 1991 as a sophomore. DeFini’s career got started in 1991 when he ranked fifth nationally in scoring with 47 points.
Today, DeFini works as a physician’s assistant in orthopedics.
