- Induction:

- Class:
- 1981
An honorable mention prep All-American from Brother Rice High School in Chicago, Randy Schwartz came to Creighton in the fall of 1977 after earning all-Catholic League and honorable mention all-state honors his senior year.
Schwartz, who also earned Illinois State Scholar status his senior year at Brother Rice, was a four-year starter (1978-81) on the Bluejay baseball team, earning first-team all-Missouri Valley Conference status his senior year. Schwartz, who was also an honorable mention Academic All-American selection by the College Sports Information Directors of America in his senior year, ranked fourth nationally with his .457 batting average in 1981, over-matching future big leaguers Phil Bradley (Missouri, .456), Tony Gwynn (San Diego State, .416), and Joe Carter (Wichita State, .411). Schwartz's career .385 batting average stands today as third-best on the Bluejay all-time list.
As a freshman, Schwartz started all 39 games at shortstop, batting .328 and leading the Bluejays in hits (44), stolen bases (12), and runs scored (32). As a sophomore, Schwartz led the Bluejays in batting average (.375), stolen bases (14), and runs scored (34) while placing second on the team in hits (48), RBI (31), doubles (nine), and home runs (seven). As a junior, Schwartz led the team in five offensive categories: doubles (16), hits (54), RBI (40), home runs (seven), and stolen bases (15).
As a senior, in addition to his .457 batting average, Schwartz was team captain and led the Bluejays in hits (96), runs scored (60), doubles (18), and triples (three) while striking out just nine times in 210 at-bats. At the time, his .457 batting average, 96 hits, and 18 doubles were all single-season records. Today, those records stand as second, fifth, and tied for 10th, respectively.
Although his last collegiate at-bat occurred over 13 years ago, Schwartz's career offensive achievements can still be charted on many all-time Bluejay lists today, including hits (240, fifth), runs scored (164, eighth), doubles (46, tied for seventh), home runs (24, tied for eighth) and stolen bases (53, eighth).
Schwartz earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree in 1981 and both his master of Business Administration and Juris Doctor degrees from Creighton in 1984. Schwartz and his wife, Susie, a 1982 Creighton graduate, were married in August 1982 and moved back to the Chicago area in 1986, where they reside today with their three sons and two daughters.
Since leaving Omaha, Schwartz has been very active with the Chicago-area Creighton Alumni Club. He also served two years (1985-87) as a Chicago-area organizer for Campaign Creighton, and he served three years (1990-93) as a member of the National Alumni Board of Directors.
