Ryan Sears
- Induction:
- 2010
- Class:
- 2001
From 1997 to 2001, Ryan Sears was a driving force in Creighton University athletics – a standout player who started in all 124 games of his Creighton career. He was a leader both on and off the court, involved in organizations that included the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Jays for Christ. In the years since, he has remained a great ambassador for Creighton University and for the game of basketball, in this country and around the world. Sears ranks first in Creighton history in assists for a career, and he ranks first in both Creighton and Missouri Valley Conference history in steals for a career. He also ranks second in Creighton history in three-Â-pointers for a career. He was named to the Missouri Valley Conference All-Â-Centennial team, and was a three-Â-time Academic All-Â-District player, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Most importantly, he helped lead Creighton University to three NCAA Tournaments and one National Invitation Tournament. During the years Ryan Sears played for Creighton, the team compiled a four-Â-year record of 87-Â- 37. Since graduating from Creighton in 2001, Sears has played professional basketball with the Kansas City Knights and with teams in Kosovo, the Netherlands and Belgium. But he lists as the highlight of his career his involvement with Athletes in Action, where, as a player and coach from 2002 through 2009, he used his love of the game to share with others the joy of knowing and following a spiritual savior. He is currently a coach with Kingdom Hoops, training young men and women in individual skill development as well as coaching skills for practices and tournaments. Ryan Sears’ athletic ability and leadership qualities make him a team player and leader, respected and admired by students, fans and teammates. His desire to put his faith into action and use his gifts for the greater good continues to change lives for the better. Creighton University is pleased to name Ryan Sears to the Athletic Hall of Fame.
