OMAHA, Neb. - Creighton head men's soccer coach Bret Simon has added Jaro Zawislan as an assistant coach in charge of goal keepers. Zawislan takes over after Bruce Erickson moved over to become the head coach of the women's program at Creighton.
Zawislan, brother of current Bluejay goalkeeper Tom Zawislan, brings severy years of coaching experience to Creighton, having served as director of Jaro's Soccer Academy for the past several years where he conducted camps and seminars for young players.
The Brampton, Ontario native also brings coaching experience after stints with the Canadian Soccer Academy, serving as player-coach of the Columbia Heat in the United System of Independent Soccer Leagues. He also played professionally with the Columbia Heat of the U.S.I.S.L where he was an Atlantic Division All-Star, Zawislan went on to play one year for Arka Gdynia, a Division II professional team in Poland as well as two seasons with the Detroit Neon/Safari of the Continental Indoor Soccer League.
A three-time All-ACC selection, Zawislan set the career record for saves with 448 stops at Clemson. As a freshman, Zawislan established a single-season school record with 134 saves, while holding down a 0.94 GAA clip. He also holds the distinction of starting every contest (88) at the net in his four-year career as a Tiger. Zawislan also received the Jim Weaver Award which is given annually to the top male ACC student-athlete. In 1993, Zawislan was named ACC Tournament MVP after recording 20 saves in 2 games.
A 1993 graduate of Clemson University, Zawislan earned his bachelor of Arts in Computer Science and graduated Cum Laude with a 3.59 GPA. He also earned his bachelor of Education in 1999 from the University of Toronto. Zawislan is also fluent in both Polish and Russian.
