OMAHA, Neb. - Head Coach Bob Warming of the Creighton men’s soccer team has announced the signing of six standout prep players for the 2004 season. The six recruits will join the rich soccer tradition at Creighton, which has seen the Bluejays appear in 12 consecutive NCAA Tournaments, win eight Missouri Valley Conference tournament titles, six MVC regular-season titles and make three College Cup Final Four appearances. Creighton won the 2003 MVC regular-season title at 7-1-1 and finished with a 12-6-4 overall record, just one win from appearing in its second consecutive NCAA Final Four.
The recruiting class includes Creighton’s first ever recruit from the Phoenix, Ariz., area, a forward from Garland, Texas, two players from Miami, Fla., and two local products from Omaha.
Matt Allen, 6-4, Goalkeeper, Omaha, Neb. (Burke)
Allen becomes the first player in Creighton soccer history to graduate from high school one year early and join the CU program in what would be his senior year of high school. He is a tall, athletic goalkeeper who is a very good shot blocker and is a dominant force in the air. Allen is a member of the Region II Olympic Development Team.
Quoting Bob Warming – 'Matt is the first player we have ever signed who has elected to skip his senior year. With that said, he is also the most qualified physically, academically and emotionally. We are very excited about Matt and know that he will add to our already strong goalkeeping corps. He has the potential to make a huge impact at the college level.'
Tim Bohnenkamp, 5-9, Midfielder, Omaha, Neb. (Millard South)
Bohnenkamp is a quick, wiry outside midfielder. He is very good on the dribble and has the ability to serve the ball into the box while running at full speed. Bohnenkamp is regarded as one of those rare players who is actually faster with the ball than without. He is very good at creating a shot for himself and shoots very well with both feet. Bohnenkamp is also a member of the Region II Olympic Development Team currently competing in Brazil.
Quoting Bob Warming – 'Tim is one of the few players from Omaha who have been able to make a true impact on the Regional Team. His experiences in Brazil will help him to make the transition from youth soccer to the college game. We are confident that Tim will come in and make an immediate impact.'
Joan Carvajal, 5-8, Midfielder, Miami, Fla. (Felix Varela)
Joan (joe-AHN) is a creative, dynamic central player. He is a natural left-footed player who has the ability to completely take over a game. Carvajal has the very special quality of being able to bring all of his teammates into the game with his incredible vision and passing ability. He will prove to be a crowd favorite (much like former Creighton star and National Player of the Year, Johnny Torres), as he is full of personality on and off the field. Carvajal is a teammate of fellow recruit, Richard Perdomo, on the U-17 National Champion West Kendall Optimist club team.
Quoting Bob Warming – 'Joan, like the rest of our recruiting class, has his best soccer ahead. Without question, he will be one of the most skillful and creative players ever to play at Creighton.'
Trevor Eastman, 5-10, Forward, Garland, Texas (Naaman Forest)
Eastman is a dynamic, explosive and powerful athlete. Although he is relatively young to soccer, he has proven himself to be a true goal scorer with a tremendous amount of potential. In addition to soccer, Trevor played wide receiver for the football team at Naaman Forest.
Quoting Bob Warming – 'Trevor brings a number of intangibles to the Creighton soccer program. With a 60 yard throw in he is a threat from anywhere on the field, his 36-inch vertical jump and perfect heading technique make him very dangerous in the box. We expect big things from Trevor in his career at Creighton.'
Sam Eid, 6-3, Midfielder, Goodyear, Ariz. (Millennium)
Eid led Millennium to a perfect 24-0 record and scored the decisive goal in the state championship game against Chaparral on Feb. 8, 2004. He is dominant in the air, one of his many talents on the pitch. Eid has the ability to take people on and create his own shot, and he is very talented on defense. In addition to soccer, he is an accomplished track star, specializing in distance events.
Quoting Bob Warming – 'We are very excited about Sam and all that he will bring to our program. He is the first recruit that we have landed from Phoenix - an area saturated with great soccer players. We hope to have many more follow in his footsteps.'
Richard Perdomo, 5-8, Defender, Miami, Fla. (Gulliver Prep)
Perdomo is the captain of the U-17 National Championship club team, West Kendall Optimist from Miami. He is a tough, hard-nosed defender who is fearless in the tackle. He is a tremendous leader who does a great job of organizing his team in front of him. Perdomo has a great understanding of the game and is very good at starting the counter-attack.
Quoting Bob Warming – “Richard is the leader and team captain of the best club soccer team in the country. He brings a number of special qualities to the team that will enable us to continue to compete at the highest level. Richard has had a ton of success on the soccer field. He is a winner.'
