SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Lindsay Vaught scored in the 71st minute of play as Creighton women's soccer tied Missouri State, 1-1, on Sunday afternoon in Missouri Valley Conference play. Creighton's record moves to 7-6-2 overall and 1-1-1 in the MVC with its third double overtime match of the season.
Vaught, in just her second match back from injury, found the goal after MSU (9-6-2, 2-2-1) goalkeeper Jackie Jasper couldn't clear the ball from the box. Vaught was in the right place at the right time and kicked the ball through the net to even up the match. It was her second goal of the season.
Vaught's goal came just three minutes after MSU's Kate Hercules scored her third goal of the season. Hercules scored off of a free kick that went off of two CU defenders.
In the two extra periods, the Bluejays had three chances to take the victory but Jasper was able to make all three saves. CU goalkeeper Kristen Casey had three saves on the afternoon. With the tie, her record moved to 3-3-2 on the season.
'We really battled today and were unfortunate not to come away with the win,' said head coach Bruce Erickson. 'We responded with a good performance following Friday's game and made progress that we hope to continue this week.'
The Jays continue MVC play on Friday, Oct. 20 against Indiana State in Terre Haute, Ind. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. The Jays are 8-0-0 all-time versus Indiana State and are 2-2-2 away from home this season.
