Northern Iowa defeats Creighton, 1-0, in Women's Soccer

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - Creighton (9-7-2, 3-2-1) was defeated by Northern Iowa (2-16-0, 2-4-0) on Thursday night 1-0 in the last match of the regular season. This is the first time ever that the Panthers had defeated the Bluejays in their nine match history. Northern Iowa did not qualify for the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament so the Panthers were playing in their last game of the season.

In cold and rainy conditions, Northern Iowa's Keni Schroeder scored her first goal of the season in the 71^st minute off of a ball that had bounced off of a Creighton defender in the box. The goal ended up being the game winner as Northern Iowa won for the second time in MVC play.

"I would like to congratulate UNI. They played inspired from the opening whistle. We could not find a groove and failing to put away our early chances proved costly, especially with the conditions," said head coach Bruce Erickson. "We must now regroup for the tournament and move forward."

CU goalkeeper Valerie Zimmerer played all 90 minutes for the Jays and had two saves. UNI goalkeeper Heidi O'Mara had 10 saves and won her second match of the season.

Creighton plays next on Nov. 3 at 7:30 p.m. in the Missouri Valley Conference Semifinals at Morrison Stadium. The Bluejays play the winner of the Evansville and Missouri State match that is being held on Oct. 29 at 1:00 p.m.
