Kaus scored 17 of her career-high 22 points in the first half, making her first five three-point attempts to lead the Jays.
The Jays tied the game with an Ally Thrall free-throw to open the second half but could never take the lead, while making just two field goals in the opening nine minutes of the second half.
The Gophers' (4-1) tenacious rebounding proved to be the difference in the game, as
Kaus was the only Bluejay to score in double figures, doubling her previous career-high of 11 points. Sara Cain finished with eight points, while Megan Neuvirth led the Jays with six rebounds in just 13 minutes while battling illness. Thrall did not make a field goal, finishing with five points off of free-throws. Thrall's streak of 33 straight games with a three-point field goal, which led the NCAA and had tied a school record, came to an end in the defeat.
The Bluejays return home to host the Iowa Hawkeyes on Sunday at 2:05 p.m.
