
Men's Basketball Runs Past Huskies, 110-73

OMAHA, Neb. -- Ten players scored eight points or more as Creighton men's basketball posted a 110-73 victory over Houston Baptist before a crowd of 13,671 on Monday night.
The Bluejays improved to 7-1 with the win, while Houston Baptist, a former NAIA program in its first transitional year to Division I, fell to 2-13.
Not only were Creighton's 110 points a Qwest Center Omaha record, but also the fourth-most in school history. CU hadn't scored 110 points in a regular-season game since a 115-80 win over Indiana State on Jan. 19, 1985.
After taking a 49-37 lead into the half, Creighton would score the first 10 points of the second half and force a Houston Baptist timeout. A 12-1 run a few minutes later gave the Jays a 77-42 lead. The Jays broke the 100-point barrier for the first time since 2005 when Aaron Brandt drained a three-pointer from the corner with 4:01 to play. CU's final points came with 48 seconds left on a free throw by Texas native Booker Woodfox.
The Jays made a season-high 14 three-pointers in 29 attempts from downtown while making a season-high 55.1 percent of its overall shots from the field. Eight different players nailed at least one three-ball, including three each from reserves Cavel Witter, Kaleb Korver and Woodfox.
Kenny Lawson Jr. had career-highs with 15 points and eight rebounds off the bench to lead the Jays in just 13 minutes. Dane Watts had 14 points and nine rebounds in 18 minutes before resting the final 16 minutes. Other Bluejays with season-highs included Josh Dotzler (8), Woodfox (11), Kenton Walker (8) and Brandt (9). CU outrebounded the smaller Huskies 47-24 and dished 25 assists on 38 baskets. Impressively, CU did it while making just 12 turnovers.Purdue transfer Gordon Watt and Andrew Puzyk each had 17 points to lead the Huskies. Watt also had 10 rebounds.
NOTES: Houston Baptist was playing game 14 of an 18-game road trip in between home games on Nov. 3 and Jan. 15 ...The win was Dana Altman's 350th of his Division I coaching career ...All 14 Bluejays played at least seven minutes, and Dustin Sitzmann was the only CU player to not score or attempt three shots or more ...Creighton scored an incredible 77 bench points ...Among Qwest Center Omaha records set included margin of victory (37), points in a game (110), points in a half (61), combined points for two teams (183), most field goals made (38), assists (25-tied) ...Creighton's school-record for points in a game is 124 against Miami (Fla.)
