
Bluejay Men's Basketball Soars Past Eagles, 88-54

OMAHA, Neb. ? California natives Kenton Walker and Kenny Lawson Jr. combined for 25 points and 13 rebounds to help Creighton men's basketball to an 88-54 win over North Carolina Central on Thursday.
Creighton is now 8-1 overall and undefeated in seven home games, while NCCU drops to 1-14 overall and 0-13 away from home.
Lawson had 13 points in 14 minutes of play, while Walker had 12 points and nine rebounds to establish career-highs in both categories.
Leading 40-30 at half, CU opened the second half on a 13-5 run that was capped by a dunk from P'Allen Stinnett. Stinnett was charged with a technical foul on the play, and Charles Futrell scored four points on the ensuing NCCU possession.
The technical foul seemed to ignite the Jays, who quickly answered with a 15-0 run that included three dunks and eight overall points by Walker.
The Bluejays continued to play hard until the final buzzer, closing the game with a 12-3 surge that featured a pair of dunks by Lawson and three-pointers from freshmen Casey Harriman and Kaleb Korver.
Creighton shot 53.2 percent from the field and hit 10-of-24 shots from downtown. CU also outrebounded the Eagles 40-30 and owned a 61-15 advantage in bench points.
North Carolina Central was paced by a season-high 26 points from Bryan Ayala. Seventeen of those came in the game's first 14 minutes while helping NCCU stay within 28-26. Charles Futrell had 12 points and eight minutes while playing 36 minutes. NCCU shot 30.9 percent for the game, 30.8 percent from long range and 88.9 percent at the line.
Creighton returns to action on Saturday afternoon at 2:05 pm with a game against Arkansas-Little Rock (9-1). The game can be heard on KXSP (Big Sports 590 AM) and will be televised on KMTV.
