
Baseball Beats Bison In Game One Win, 12-2

The Bluejays improved to 33-12 with the win, its 14th in the past 15 games. NDSU fell to 12-26 with the loss.
Creighton scored first with two runs off NDSU starter Jeff Kyllo in the top of the first inning. Robbie Knight was hit by a pitch to lead off the game and would eventually score on an infield single by Darin Ruf. CU's second run came when Andy Masten plated Chris Gradoville with a bases-loaded sacrifice fly.
Creighton put together a solid rally in the fourth inning, scoring four unearned runs with two outs and chasing Kyllo in the process. CU's first run came when Gradoville was hit with an 1-0 offering and the bases loaded on Kyllo's last pitch of the day, scoring Ross Sinclair. Three more runs came when Darin Ruf's deep drive to left-center was dropped by leftfielder Kenny Beese, clearing the bases and making it 6-0.
NDSU scored its first run in the bottom of the fourth. Ryan Langlais singled, then scored on Kole Zimmerman's double to center. Zimmerman would be thrown out on a fine relay from Knight to
The Bluejays added five insurance runs in the top of the sixth. Knight led off with a triple off the top of the left-field fence and after Sinclair was beaned, Knight would score on a passed ball. Sinclair later scored from third on a balk. Gradoville and Andrew Small scored later that inning on a three-run homer to left off the bat of Winklemann, his fourth dinger of the year.
The Jays scored for the final time in the top of the seventh when Knight singled and scored his fourth run on a single up the middle from Ruf.
Schmidt threw six innings, giving up just five hits and one run while striking out three in 64 pitches. He improved to 3-1 with the win. Freshman Bob Lackovic threw the final inning for CU.

NOTES: Creighton freshman Robbie Knight was hit with the fifth pitch of the game. It's the 28th time he's been hit by a pitch this year, five away from tying the NCAA record. Knight has been hit in the first inning nine different times... Creighton has outscored foes 31-4 in the past 15 games, including 11 games with first-inning runs... Michael Lam extended the longest hitting streak of his career to nine with a single in the fourth, while Chris Gradoville matched his career-high by hitting in a 10th-straight game...
