OMAHA, Neb. -- Former Creighton University men's basketball standout Anthony Tolliver was a second-round selection of the Butte (Mont.) Daredevils in yesterday's Continental Basketball Association (CBA) College Draft.
Tolliver, a 6-9 forward/center from Springfield, Mo., is currently in Ohio, where he will open training camp with the Eastern Conference champion Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday.
Should Tolliver not make the Cavaliers roster, his CBA rights would belong to Butte. Coached by Patrick O'Herron, the Daredevils open camp on November 5, with their first game scheduled for Nov. 16.
Tolliver played at Creighton from 2003-07, where he was named a first-team all-Missouri Valley Conference last spring. He averaged 13.4 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.8 blocked shots per game while anchoring the Bluejay defense. Earlier in the spring he was named a second-team CoSIDA Academic All-American and a Collegeinsider.com Mid-Major All-American. Additionally, Tolliver earned a spot on the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award All-America Second Team.
Other players drafted by Butte yesterday were Jeremy Hunt (Memphis), Tyronne Beale (Bowie State), Chaz Crawford (Drexel) and Quin Humphrey (Youngstown State). Oral Roberts forward Caleb Green was the first selection in the six-round, 59-player draft, going to the Oklahoma Calvary. Southern Illinois guard Jamaal Tatum was the only other player with MVC ties to be selected, going in the second round to the Atlanta Krunk.
Creighton finished the 2006-07 season with a 22-11 record and seventh NCAA Tournament bid in the last nine years. The Bluejays are one of just nine teams with nine straight 20-win seasons and one of 12 schools with 10 straight postseason appearances. Creighton opens the 2007-08 regular-season on Nov. 9 against DePaul. For season ticket information, call (402) 280-JAYS.
