
Altman Wins 500th As Men's Hoops Trims Sycamores, 79-61

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Creighton made 15-of-24 three-point attempts and never trailed while posting a 79-61 road win at Indiana State on Wednesday afternoon. The win was the 500th of head coach Dana Altman's career at all college levels, which includes 294 victories at Creighton.
Creighton's ninth stragiht win improved it to 12-2 on the season, including a 2-0 MVC mark. The Sycamores dropped to 3-10 on the season and are 1-1 in MVC play.
Creighton's P'Allen Stinnett drained a pair of early three-pointers help the Jays take an early 8-2 lead. The hosts would close within 14-13 on a three-pointer from Harry Marshall, but Bluejay sophomore Kaleb Korver would drain an open trey from the corner on the ensuing possession as part of a 14-2 run that also saw CU treys from Justin Carter and Booker Woodfox, as well as five free throws from Woodfox. The Sycamores would get within eight on a three-pointer by Jay Tunnell late in the half, only to see Stinnett drive the length of the floor in the final 4.5 seconds to bank in a three-pointer as time expired and give CU a 40-29 halftime lead.
Stinnett also opened the second half with a three-pointer to stretch the Bluejay lead to 43-29, only to see Indiana State make its final run at the Jays. A pair of three-pointers by Rashad Reed and a dunk by Brant Leitnaker came during a 9-0 run that dropped CU's lead to 46-42. However, Kenny Lawson Jr. would answer with a putback and Stinnett would drain his sixth trey of the game to push the lead back to 51-42 with 15 minutes remaining.
Indiana State would get within seven points with 9:44 to play, but a three-pointer by Chad Millard pushed CU's lead back to double-digits for the remainder of the afternoon. Creighton's final 18-point margin of victory matched its largest lead of the game.
Stinnett had 22 points, including 6-of-8 shooting from long-range, to top all scorers. Also in double-figures with 17 points was Woodfox, while Cavel Witter chipped in with 12 points. Creighton shot 50 percent for the game (25-50), highlighted by a 15-of-24 display from three-point range (62.5 percent). CU also made its first 11 free throws before its lone miss and finished 14-of-15 at the stripe (93.3 percent). CU also outrebounded ISU 38-30 for the game.
Indiana State was led by 15 points from Marshall, while Reed scored all 11 of his points after half. The Sycamores shot 34.5 percent for the game, including 10-of-27 (37.0 percent) from three-point range.
Creighton remains on the road and returns to play again on Saturday with a 7:05 pm game against unbeaten MVC co-leader
